I'm new to this page (was a Palm guy.... saw the light and got converted) I'm going to buy the Dell pda (not sure which one..) and a CF 802.11b card.

Questions:
What does a typical screen look like while surfing on a pda? (example: Yahoo)

What limitations do you face while surfing? (Can I stream line in web newscast that I find on MSNBC)

Which Dell should I buy?

Thanks so much

Otte

Which dell should you buy--that really depends on what you're going to do with it. I find the 300mh quite fine for my use(basic PIM, games, MP3 playing) and most of the time even leave my processor set to power save(200mh), except when I'm playing games on the NES emulator. If you're planning a lot of heavy use like more intensive games and video watching, you might want to get the 400mh. The other advantage that the 400mh has is more RAM, I used up my 32 megs WAY faster then I expected to. Not a big deal since I do have a storage card, but the 64m would have been nice. However, I spent the same amount for my axim plus a 256m SD card($300) as I would have for the 400mh axim alone! So it's all about what you want from the device and what you're willing to pay for it.

Haven't really taken mine online much yet though so I can't really help you there :(

There are limitations - obviously with Pocket IE. There are other web browsers such as NetFront 3 and Thunderhawk(but these will both cost you some extra $$)

As for the DELL, PetiteFlower gave you a pretty good answer. I would get the 400Mhz...[/img]

Try it for yourself - you can connect to the Internet via the cradle.

Thanks for the info.... But maybe I'm a little naive in my thinking, but I was under the impression that I could surf (utilizing my 802.11b connection) web pages just like I do on my pc???

Another question…. Is there a browser on the market that will flip to landscape mode?

PetiteFlower, based upon your info I'm leaning toward the 400...

Yes you can surf any pages you want, but due to screen limitations, mobile versions of the websites work best since they are formatted to work with a ppc browser. You can still open http://www.yahoo.com instead of http://mobile.yahoo.com

There are two utilities which will flip the screen: JSLandscapeX (http://www.jimmysoftware.com/Software/Landscape3/) and Nyditot Virtual Display (http://www.nyditot.com/).

There is also a browser alternative - Thunderhawk (http://www.bitstream.com/wireless/) which will let you see website at different resolutions for the tiny ppc display, but this is a subscription based service since you will use bitstream as a proxy server.
