Specifically, whether I'm connected via a special cable, infra red or Bluetooth, can I use a phone list held on the handheld to dial on a bog standard mobile phone (currently I have an Ericsson T39m)?

Thanks

Yes. Have a look at mPhone (www.mobem.com) and SimpleCall (www.visualit.co.uk)

That's excellent, thanks, just what I wanted.

On a side tack, supposing I had a list of phone numbers in an Excel spreadsheet. These progs look like they work off the contact list, is there a way (other than manually tapping in the numbers using the supplied applet) that they could be auto-dialled from within Excel? Presumably only with cut&paste or something like that, unless there's some sort of VBA support built in to the dial applets - if you have any experience of them.

thanks

Hmmm, dunno of anything that would phone from within Excel. Try sending an email off to VisualIT. They've got a terrific response time and they might consider it if it was something that was relatively easy to do (and I'd guess it wouldn't be too hard) and they could sell enough copies.
