Since we've had a desktop picture thread in the off-topic section, how about showing off our customised PocketPC Today screens in the on-topic section  ? A lot of people like to customize their PPC to great lengths and it would be cool to see your results here!

http://home.iae.nl/users/ronnies/Image6.jpg

Here's my own desktop (i prefer the term 'desktop' to 'today screen', the latter sounds like its a part of outlook  ) with my 'loundge' theme.
I like it when the Today Screen is not too crowded so just my appointments are viewable, along with my favourite shortcuts (tdLaunch) and the status of my of my little micro-universe (Todayinfo) customized with my own skin. The START-bar is WisBAR with a version of the Pocket-Olive skin modified a little bit by me. Another thing that bothers me in 'default-mode' is the GREY color of all the buttons and scrollbars so I changed the OS color-scheme aswell to something more 'cheerful'.

I showed you mine, now show me your's 8O LOL

I'm running PocketPC 2000, but using Novosec's Pocket Facelift to enable themes. Then using ThemeMaster to rotate among my themes. (I've got probably a couple of dozen , mostly nature scenes.)

I'm using ScaryBear's QuickTasks to keep a configurable to-do list on my Today screen where I can't ignore it.

How were you able to get tdLaunch to go all the way to the bottom of the screen and leave the middle portion empty?

I did this by setting the 'Window top margin' pretty high for tdlaunch

you can find it in the options of tdlaunch:
-Start > Settings > Today
-'Items' tab
- choose 'tdlaunch' left and press 'options' on the right
-Press the 'option' button bottom left

There you can define how tdlaunch 'looks' and there you should find the option for the 'Window top margin' which I set to 195 which puts the tdlaunch icons in the lower part of the screen. All today-screen apps listed under tdlaunch are 'pushed' down aswell. Just experiment a bit with the window top margin setting and the order of the today-screen apps and you'll see how its done.

Ok, if we are joining in here's my usual Pocket PC desktop:

http://www.tekguru.co.uk/Tekguru_ppc_desktop.jpg

and in case anyone is wondering what the task / appointment application is I can't say yet..... :P

The 'white' icon at the top is Spb GRPS Monitor v2.

The components are in order:

- Wisbar (Pelmar variant) with Lightmans XP skin
- Battery Pack 2003 from OmegaOne
- Program Bar from OmegaOne
- Journal Bar from OmegaOne
- Secret - under test
- Spb GRPS Monitor - set to monitor ActiveSync *
- Standard Inbox Plugin
- Standard Owner plugin **

* - Would you beleive I've only been monitoring for 2 days :!:
** - Which will be changing very shortly to that app shown earlier which includes ones picture 8O

The background theme is Lightmans modified 'white' Bliss theme - again part of his major XP Theme (available from Pelmar in the skins forum).

Well no I didn't edit the second item. That is I think an artifact of the black or default text turning white on the e740 with EUU3. (In this case white on white.)

T- Day was also the victim of this when I had the previous free version.

Well no I didn't edit the second item. That is I think an artifact of the black or default text turning white on the e740 with EUU3. (In this case white on white.)

T- Day was also the victim of this when I had the previous free version.

Interesting. I've never heard about something like that or seen that myself on various devices (no Toshiba in my array of thest units, though).

Does it ever change to black or is this possibly dependent on the active theme?

All,

This thread was great. It was nice to see all the creative minds sharing their creations.

It inspired me to purchase Battery Pack 2003. I like it, but not as much as I had hoped. I'm going to spend some time over the next few days pouring through the Help to get some ideas, but I was wondering if anyone who has it could share some useful tips. For example, I disabled the Program Bar because it doesn't give me the flexibility to choose which shortcuts I want to place on my today screen. TD launch allows me to select the icons and order them to my preference.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Program bar definitely lets you pick which shortcuts, and in what order, to put on your today screen. Check out the help file.

The bar is fully customized -- made it myself. The rest I only played with a bit -- the dashboard skin's not my work.

I liketo use Scott Seligman's Launcher, because it lets me organize my icons into folders, which then open into groups of other icons. It cuts down on the Today screen clutter. Of course, this works only if you customize the icons for the different folder groups.

I agree. I wind up using two launchers because of this very reason. PocketPlus for all of it's functionality, and Scott's launcher for the folders. It's not the ideal set up though just because you have two spaces taken up on the screen. PocketPlus had said they were going to add the folder feature to their launcher but it has yet to materialize. I hope they follow through. This is a great program and is one of the few features lacking in it.

How do you customize the folder icons?? I have the generic folder for three groups. They are separated because of their dir. name, so I know which is which but it would be great to have a different icon for each, ie: games, programs, and utilities (this is how mine are grouped)

That would be great!! since I already use PocketPlus. I already have too many Today screen plug-ins, so that I find I have to disable some of them (rename the DLL) in order to use others. I'd rather not use their battery bar, however, since I prefer the one that comes with Facelift - sort of minimalist.

If you look at the folder for games on your PocketPC you'll see that it uses a customized icon. That's done with an icon shortcut (you can edit the shortcut in a Notepad application.) The shortcut is in this format:

1#\windows\PHMIcons.dll,-301

Now all you need is some icons!!! Philippe Majerus had posted an icon resource a while back, and I've since added a few more icons to the library. You can get it here (http://www.wctc.net/~dlangton/PHMIcons.dll) . You'll need a way to determine the icon resource numbers. Easiest is to use Resource Hacker http://www.users.on.net/johnson/resourcehacker/ . Just copy the downloaded DLL to your Windows folder. Once you've picked the icon you want, just make a shortcut in the above format and copy it to the folder you want to customize.

oh, that's Resco Stickies - pretty useful, it's like yellow post-it notes which records handwriting. You just scribble and take handwritten notes as you wish and it saves your handwriting as is...

That little white battery symbol is showing up because Stone's battery is low!

Actually Karin, that screen shot is taken with our own ThemeMakerPT (http://www.pocketthemes.com/store/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=14&products_id=32) software which is the only software that allows you to take the screen shot of the theme you have created AND send it directly to our site with the click of one button! This is the app that won the BEST award for a theme making app by the PocketPC Magazine Awards!

We also have our ThemeMakerProPT (http://www.pocketthemes.com/store/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=14&products_id=159) app which is a full featured theme creation and editing app with several enhancements over the standard version. It also allows an unlimited number of uploads of the same category, i.e., you can select a folder that has 150 animal (or any category) themes in it and with the press of one button, all 150 themes will be uploaded to our site!

Try them both out as there are free trials of both! :D

You could use SmallMenu (it's free without the Plus) from http://www.tillanosoft.com/ce/smenu.html . Works fine at showing the battery icon. While you're there, check out Pocket Tweak!!

Not unless WisBar has been changed recently. WisBar is a great app but covers the built in Pocket PC start bar notificiations.

The seen magic button.

Anyone remenber the good ol' days with windows 95? I do with such a warmth in my heart. How the OS crashed right after I finished a paper that was due the next day. How the PC showed me the loving BSOD which made me feel so surprised that I would utter large lists of 4 letter words because that meant restarting my PC. Oh yes. That's why I like to think that Active Sync was Microsoft's gift to us nostalgic folks of Windows 95. Because it has the same reliability that Windows 95 did. The Dennis Miller bug is spreading.
