If anyone knows about this, post. Otherwise, tell me what you think. Or you could give me a thread  . I still think this is good news for Toshiba because their e740 batteries suck. The PDA is the best ever but you can't have a PDA without a good battery. Especially a WiFi PDA with only one hour of WiFi.

March 4 — Toshiba next week plans to exhibit a fuel cell prototype that it said has the potential to replace environmentally taxing, rechargeable batteries with clean-energy technology. The Japanese electronics company, which ranks among the top notebook makers, said it would present direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) technology for portable computers that can provide about five hours of power with a single cartridge of fuel.

Keep in mind that this could also be used for PDAs. This article talks about Laptops but it could be used for PDAs.

I somehow know that this was an old story and if it is, forgive me.

The one they are announcing is 11 inches long, so I don't think we'll be seeing for the e740 anytime soon.

Quote from MSNBC:
THE NEW FUEL CELL, about 275 millimeters by 75 millimeters by 40 millimeters (about 11 inches by 3 inches by 1.5 inches),

I have not heard about the ability of this being used in PDA's.
I believe the batteries are for laptops only due to the size issues.
11 inches by 3 inches is too large for PDA's.

The other problem is many PocketPC PDA's do not have removable batteries.
Lastly this is a prototype and the real thing will be years away.
Therefore your E740 will be obsolete by the time we see these.

By the by, getting 1 hour of PDA usage with the Wi Fi is still very good.

In the end there will be other recharging methods that will be wireless coming out this year sometime.

I don't have a 740 anymore, I carry an iPAQ now.

I do wish that Toshiba would make a better battery for their PDAs. It was a design too good to waste on battery.
