I remember a few years ago......ok quite a few years ago :) I used to travel a lot through Canada, and the midwestern USA. There used to be a megawatt station in some weird place like Fargo, North Dakota that used to play old radio shows late at night. We loved it. In fact we would often schedule things so we could travel through the night and listen to "The Shadow" Once you get hooked it's pretty good. :) ......."Only the Shadow knows for sure"

I use another site for old radio shows. Yep they are all public domain, but it's nice to have access to 3500 of them in mp3 format all in 1 place.

The membership fees are very reasonable and no restriction on downloads. ($2.95 for 3 day trial, $5 per month for a year)

Audiobooks/Radio Plays are great and can absolutely be as entertaining as a movie (just as long as you have some imagination :D ). for example 'The Lord of the Rings' was done by the BBC radio 'long ago' and was great! Its about 11 or maybe even 17 hours of listening and boy the movies are no match for my imagination :mrgreen: (i like the movies)

I love listening to radio drama, including the new stuff. Radio makes you use your brain much more than tv/movies, which is why I like it so much.

Many years ago when I was attending university I happened upon a made-for-radio serial called "The Fourth Tower Of Inverness". It was great fantasy - cheesy, mystical, silly, philosophical - and totally fun. I recorded it on my tape deck and listened to it several times. Many years late on a whim I searched the internet and discovered that the outfit that produced it, (www.zbs.org) had in fact created MANY Jack Flanders adventures over the years, and had other series available as well. Best of all, they were all available on CDs. So I ordered, received, and promptly converted to .wma format. Now I have these delightful bits of entertainment on an SD card for instant listening on my IPAQ. It's great fun!

Along the same lines, who can forget Douglas Adam's and the radio version of "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"? I have the LPs somewhere, I think that's next on my list...

Just last Halloween I downloaded and listened to the original broadcast of "War of the Worlds"...

Great fun, and the TV was off for almost an hour!!! :wink:

Believe it or not these 60 year old radio shows are not in the Public Domain. About 3 years (pre-Napster) ago a company called Radio Spirits virtually destroyed the online file sharing community of OTR traders claiming Copyright to several series including the Shadow. It's good to see folks are coming to their senses again. These things are great listening on a long commute.

I never could get these shows to load on microsoft.public.pocketpc.multimedia here's a website where you can find them all.
