hi there everybody. this is my first post. i need ur help on a problem i'm facing with my axim. i'm using the belkin bluetooth adapter to connect my T68i phone to the axim, the two devices bond together with no problems, however when i try to connect to the internet by dialing my ISP and using T68i as bluetooth dialup modem the phone makes the call and disconnects after about 20 seconds of connection but no logging to the internet (my username and password are correct as when i use the same sittings but through the IR port and not bluetooth i get connected and can surf the internet with no problems at all). i don't know what is going wrong but it's a nagging problem that i can't figure out. please if someone can help, post ur reply as soon as possible. thanx in advance.

I am guessing you already know this, but are you using the correct dialing string on your Axim to dial through to your T68i? I guess every ISP is different, but with ATT Wireless, the string is *99# with no area code or other numbers/characters. Sounds like you are trying to dial through and then disconnecting after the timeout (like dialing a wrong number).

jimski - Obviously Samkatta's problem isn't dialling the wrong number - because it works via IR. That's assuming that all the other settings are the same. It's been my experience that some of them (especially in the 'Advanced' bit) can cause these effects.

So, Samketta, I'd recommend going through the working IR settings and writing them all down, then making sure the BT settings are the same.

Actually, that is only the dial string if you are connecting via GPRS. (Which is the only option that AT&T allows.) If samkatta is attempting to connect to an external ISP via GSM (that is, circuit switched data) then you would call the "normal" number for the ISP. But as I noted, AT&T blocks you from doing this.

As for samkatta's specific problem: it's a bit strange since it's working via IrDA. Are you using the same connection for both Bluetooth and IrDA, or did you duplicate it? You might need a special modem init string to force a GSM data connection.

thank u all for replying. i've set the bluetooth connection separately and i didn't duplicate the sittings, i'm also using as u said an external ISP to log through GSM and the phone already dials the number correctly but the problem that it doesn't complete the logging and the call terminates after 17-20 seconds, while everything works just fine when using the T68i through the IrDA port. for Irda i'm sitting the modem in Axim as Generic IrDA modem and for bluetooth i'm sitting it as bluetooth dial up modem. is there any commands that i should use in the dial-string modem commands line as i'm living this empty (someting u said about forcing the connection over GSM). thanx again for ur help.

Sounds like the same problem I'm having. We're using the same products...Axim, Belkin & T68i except I have Cingular and maybe a step ahead of you in this ordeal.

I'm able to connect to the phone, cue GPRS, hold the connection...but unable to view or pull up any web pages. I keep getting a pop up saying, ”page cannot be found...or something in that context. I've also, only recently, been having problems with connecting the "paired" devices. It seems to only happen when either device is turned on or off, then started back up.

Have you tried calling Belkin? Don't know why, but I'm starting to think our problem maybe with the adapter. What are your step by step connection settings?

Don't know why, but I'm starting to think our problem maybe with the adapter.

Here's my setup: Toshiba e740, SE t68i, and Socket BT CF, SE HBH30 headset, Tmobile GPRS.

Before going to the Socket Bluetooth CF card, I had a Belkin for about a day. I returned it because it couldn't connect (or maintain a connection) to my phone - just like what you've described above. Since I've had the Socket card I haven't had a problem connecting.

A couple of things:
- Try bonding your PDA to the t68i AND the t68i to the PDA. It's rock solid (for me at least) with this double bonding setup.
- GSM dial up is ungoddly slow. If you have the cash or a line item on your expense account GPRS the way to go.

Good Luck!

hey kaliwete, you got it man. thank u very much i was missing the T68i bond to the Axim, i did it and it worked like a charm. So finally the solution to the bluetooth internet sittings problem is that u have to bond ur pocket pc to ur phone on the PPC side and on the phone's side not from the pocket pc only.
thank u again very much.

Boy . . . Thank you again! That dual pairing really helped me as well.

WOW interesting tip! 8O But very strange. It sounds like a bug in the T68i firmware. I also have a T68i and haven't had this problem, but then I only use remote dialing, OBEX file transfers and GPRS data connections. I've never done a GSM data connection. Is this double pairing trick only related to GSM (circuit-switched) data?

One other difference is that I have an unlocked phone without any carrier specific firmware. I wonder if Cingular broke something?

No -- I've never had to do this either, and I've used both GPRS and GSM connections with T-Mo (especially in the early days, when their GPRS service was unreliable).

Now, this is possible. I also have an unlocked T68.
