View Full Version : Another Active Sync problem - imagine that!

Okay - here's the scoop this time:
I have a new 5455. At our Club Pocket PC meeting on this past Tuesday, I took my work laptop in to the meeting and established a partnership to show the features of Active Sync (it was the topic of the meeting).
I had none of the Options checked, so nothing really synchronized...

Typically, I sync only with my home PC, via USB connection. Since that meeting (which got the ideas flowing), I decided to utililize Categories a little better, and sync with the work laptop on a regular basis. My plan is to sync only work-related appointments and Contacts.

I went into Active Sync on the device, and chose "115000 Default" for the connection type, (because USB does not work on my Win NT 4.0 laptop).
Upon cradling, the AS icon in the taskbar on the laptop shows activity - it is detecting the device being cradled - but the device never syncs!
Keep in mind - I made a successful connection just 3 nights ago!!!

I receive an error that brings up a Trouble Connecting window:
Unable to connect with current settings. To change your connection settings, tap Settings...

I even tried deleting the partnership on the laptop, in hopes of trying with a clean slate. I've rebooted the laptop. I have sworn, I have screamed. Nothing works!

I've heard people talk about this phenomenon before - what gives?

Thanks,
Matt

Even with USB something like that could happen, it's not because the software problem or what, after knocking my pc, knock my head then i try to run my registry fixer. somehow that activestink registry got misplace i don't know how, so i just reinstall the activestink and it works fine until now.....

I uninstalled Active Sync and re-installed it.
Now the laptop is not finding the device at all....

My plan is to sync only work-related appointments and Contacts.

I just stumbled upon an article that Jason wrote, talking about the misconception that you can sync to a computer and have only the categories you chose synchronize.

Hardy Har - how silly of me to think that Active Stink would actually make like simple?!!!

Anyone know if one of the third party apps out there will allow this?

If I understand you correctly, you want to do a FULL sync @ home with your 5455 unit via USB, and then a PARTIAL sync @ work via serial.

Technically, this should not be a problem. The only thing I could think of is to DISABLE USB CHARGING in the power options. There is talk that having this feature enabled can cause syncing problems.

hope that helps...

heh......looks like your caught in the "No Longer supported" boat of MS OS's.

Does the laptop HAVE USB ports? If it does, I'd Win2KPro upgrade it.
Since SP2 for 2KPro, I've had very good luck upgrading most laptops of Post USB vintage.

The issue was the Snap-N-Type keyboard that I had recently installed!!!!
I removed the application, and the device synchronized just fine!

Apparently, the Snap-N-Type was hogging the serial connnection (at least for the serial type of connection to Active Sync - I never had this issue on my home PC with USB connection...)

Just another thing to add to experience!

I have 2 external keyboards for my iPAQs: a revolv Design Road Writer and a Targus Stowaway. I have noticed that to use one, I may have to disable the other. The drivers like to hog the serial connection whether the keyboard is attached to the device or not.

The same can be said for your serial devices on your iPAQ's. Make sure that all others except the one you are wanting to use are disabled (drivers and apps) so that your intended accessory has unrestricted access to the iPAQ's serial port.

Sorry I didn't find this sooner. I knew the answer to this one.

Kind Regards,

Christopher,
If I were to want to reinstall my Snap-N-Type, how would I disable the driver? Prior to my uninstalling the software, I had tried going to the app and deselecting "auto-detect", but that did not work...
