<a href="http://www.dell.com/us/en/dhs/products/series_pda_snp.htm">http://www.dell.com/us/en/dhs/products/series_pda_snp.htm</a><br /><br />If you've been holding out on plunking down your change to get one of the Dell Pocket PCs, the time may once again be right. As they've done in the past, Dell is offering great prices on their two Axim models. After a $50 mail-in rebate, the model with the 400 MHz processor and 64MB RAM is $299 and the 300 MHz/32 MB model is only $199. <br /><br />Of course, you have to buy the device from the Dell Web site in order to get the rebate. Other terms include:<br /><br />"Rebates are redeemable after purchase at regular price (before rebate price). Rebate offer valid with new Dell Axim X5 Handheld purchased by 3/19/03 11PM CT. Rebate coupon must be postmarked within 30 calendar days of your system ship date."<br /><br />I know there have been plenty of reviews published about the Dell Axim, but just let me add my own 2 cents-worth: I've had one for a couple of weeks now and simply LOVE it. I've stuck a Bluetooth CF card in it, and it has effectively replaced my iPAQ 3850. This is a great Pocket PC at a great price.

This is a great Pocket PC at a great price.

I think that says it all, Brad. This is my seventh pda (2 palms, 4 PPC's and one HPC) in 3 1/2 years. I've been looking like crazy for something like this Dell. I am thrilled with it. Could I think of some improvements? Certainly. I can improve anything. But for the price, this PPC cannot be beat right now. It has moved the bar higher than ever before. I've convinced three close friends to buy one in the last week; I have never done that before.

Well done Dell...

Tell me about it, I'm waiting for something similar to happen in Canada. Hopefully we will have our day in the sun.

My only regret was that I didn't apply my 10% discount towards the USB cradle when I had a chance. Now I'm stuck purchasing one separately which is costing me $40. Oh well, live and learn. :splat:

I concur. I have talked 6 co-workers into getting Axims...almost all before I ordered my own.

Lest we end up sounding like a bunch of syncophants, I can make one complaint, more about Dell's not being able ot handle demand than anything about the Axim itself. But on the device itself, the only thing I can say it truly lacks is SDIO, but that is hardly a huge issue.

All I need now.....is Sprint to FINALLY come out with that Sony Ericssen Bluetooth phone...

I'm not so sure about that...I've just been trying out the new iPAQ1910. It's tiny! Smaller than a Palm V (just compared it side by side this pm). Brilliant screen - as good as the 3970 and 5450. Slower CPU...but so far I have not noticed a difference. And I believe that HP are pitching it in the same price range as the Dell.

For my group, this will definitely be a Palm killer...as sexy as the Clie's...but with a better OS etc...

I bought a new e740 last fall and have had nothing but grief with the stupid thing. Toshiba swapped out the unit six times before giving me a seventh brand new unit. They have terrible quality! The new one is less than a week old and it freezes up, drops Activesync constantly, the WiFi drains a battery very fast, they have numerious problems with memory cards and generally suck. They are a cool size, there I said something nice!

I just ordered an Axim 400 MHz and expect to live happily ever after with it. I bought my wife and her daughter Axim 300 MHz units and they love them. They have a much brighter screen, never drop Activesync, don't freeze. They just work well and they feel fine in my hand.

I take a nice working brick any day instead of a broken, poor quality, sleek paper weight.

Take a look at the Cover-Up (http://www.thepocketsolution.com/merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PS&Product_Code=PSCU-110). I've seen one for the Toshiba, and they look great. I'm getting one for the Dell, and as soon as I have it, I'll post a review.

I've sold three people on Axims without even trying. The deal breaker is the price. Whenever someone sees my PPC they always say the exact same thing...."Yeah, those are really cool but they cost too much money". After I tell them how much the Dell costs they are stunned!

In the old days I had to pick people up off the floor after telling them the price of a Pocket PC. Today, they pick me up off the floor after having knocked me over to get to a store!

I want a subcompact of the Pocket PC world. SOS....Size over Specs is my motto for 2003.

Hmmm.. why would they be knocking you over to get to a store when Dell only sells the Axims on their site?

Well, if you look here
Handango Pocket Hack Master sales page (http://www.handango.com/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=1&jid=A928CBABF7385X249EAA27C1AE12FB15&platformId=2&productType=2&productId=52913)

Pocket Hack Master is saying that it has a profile for the X3. Interesting.

I did - I ordered two last week, as I posted in the review of the cover-up here: Review (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8572&amp;start=10)

I should have made clear that the Axim should have come with a cover rigth from the factory, i.e. with the device.
