Hi! I just bought a new linksys G router (backwards compatible with 'a' and 'b'). It is working well with my mixed bag of computers. (1 laptop using the new 'G' mode, and one using the older wireless card, and 1 Dell 8250 tethered). The problem is that the 5455 just won't work with this router. I can plug the old one in, and the wireless works fine.
Has anyone else come across this or actually gotten it to work?
Thanks,
James

Ok, I've applied the iPAQ Pocket PC h5400 WLAN Driver Update » 1.00
11 Mar 03 service pack, and that didn't help. Linksys released a new firmware update to Firmware Version : 1.02.1. All of my older 'b' devices work, just not the iPaq (which does work on my old B router, and all other 'b' routers I run into when I travel. Oh well, I'll keep the thread updated for others.

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to try my h5455 with a friend's 802.11g access point from Linksys and had the same problem. His Linksys 802.11g PC Card worked perfectly in his notebook, but nothing I tried would allow my iPAQ to associate with the access point. Disappointing, but not surprising, I guess. I didn't have my notebook or 802.11b PC Card to test with the AP, so I don't know if it would work or not.
I'd stay away from 802.11g stuff for a while longer, personally. At least until the standard is actually ratified.

HP has an open tech issue on 802.11b/g compatibilty. They may be working on a fix. I've been checking the IPAQ forums all over and seeing many complaints like this for 54xx machines.

Ok, I checked this out again with the 1.11 ROM upgrade. I still can't connect to the g network.
The ROM readme says "Enables an 802.11b connection with a WLAN Access Point that supports both 802.11b and 802.11g (requires firmware update, minimum version 0.100.5.39)"
Now, I see the 'requires firmware' update, and the version. Does anyone know what version of what is being referred to here? My iPaq 5455 has the following for Wireless LAN in the asset viewer after the ROM update:
Hardware Revision 6.3
Firmware Version 0.90.5.149
Driver Version 3.2.2.84
Software Version 4.0.1.36
Module Revision Date 02-09-05
Any thoughts? I appreciate the help,
James

At some unknown date in the future, HP will release a firmware update for the h5400 series' wireless hardware to add support for 802.11g access points, support for a new type of authentication commonly used in business environments, and a few other things, as well. The new ROM update is a prerequisite for the firmware update. To my knowledge, nobody really has any idea when the firmware update will be released. Until then, the h5400 series can't connect to 802.11g hardware. Quite a bummer for those who have it, I imagine.

Dave Beauvais is correct. There is an known issue with the 5400 and 802.11g routers. They simply don't communicate with each other right now. HP is supposed to release a firmware upgrade for the wireless LAN adpater that will address this problem.
