http://www.spritesoftware.com/pocket_backup_2_beta.html

Pocket Backup 2.0 from Sprite Software is currently in beta testing. New features include:

• Backup to host PC or Network Share via ActiveSync or any form of wireless networking
• Initiate backup and restore operations using the PC agent
• Considerable speed improvements for Backup and Restore using SD and CF cards
• Today Screen plugin that displays Backup status as well as battery and storage space levels.
• Advanced Storage Analysis tools

Pocket Backup 1.1.0.5 can read the V2 backup files but I have been unable to determine if the iPAQ Backup 1.0 included in the iPAQ 3900 and 5400 series can. iPAQ Backup is Pocket Backup 1.0. If it can't, be sure to keep a .CAB installer handy on your storage card as the backup does no good without the ability to restore.

They have made what seems like a lot of improvements since the 1.x series. The speed alone and the better UI are just great!! I can not wait until 2.0 comes out. This program has helped me out a few times. :D

I don't know what built in backup software the ipaq 3870 had but it, too, saved my butt many a time.

the 3800 series didn't have Sprite software's backup app. Starting with the 3900 series, Sprite's app was used.

Kathy, If you liked the backup app that came standard on the 3800 series, try Pocket Backup by Sprite. Even ver 1.1 was way better then the app you used. And 2.0 is looking great so far....

Don't worry, the guys at Sprite do understand that backward compatibility is important. With my *flaky* h5450, I have now decided to auto-backup every night to SD using v2, and this has saved me the hassle of going through a complete reinstall at least 5 times over the last 3 weeks. The built-in v1 restored everything, including the v2 beta of pocketbackup.

I don't know about that.. If you read this thread over in there beta forum, it says that anyone that buys in 2003 will get a free upgrade, but they do not mention anyone else.. Check it out, second item in this thread...

Good point. Buf if you install Pocket Backup there is only an .exe-file. And if you look for the appropiate CAB-file in your Win-Programs-folder you will notice that there are 3 CAB-files: (at least with me)
Pocket Backup.PPC300_2577.cab
Pocket Backup.PPC300_4000.cab
Pocket Backup.PPC300_10003.cab
Anybody out there who knows which one to safe to your storage card. (you wouldn't want to experiment with wrong ones, would you? I've got an iPAQ H3970.)
Thanks in advance.

and one other question which comes to my mind: if you own a H3970, Pocket Backup 1.0 came with it. Will the upgrade to V2 be free as well ?

usually when a company puts out a time-expire beta that means they will hae another beta (or final) out before the end of the expiration date.

Easy way: copy all of them to the card/PPC and open each one. Only one will let you install. When you find that one, you can cancel the install and delete the other two.

Short answer: 2577.
