http://j-walk.com/blog/docs/ossw.htm

I have been hearing about Open Sores software now for a few years and never really understood what the big deal was about. Now after reading some customer testimonials, I finally get it.

George Nelson Smith, Software Buyer (Gothenburg Pony Express Station, Nebraska): "We've been wasting money for years buying crappy software from the crooks at Microsoft. To add insult to injury, they forced us to purchase a multi-year licensing plan. And not once did they ever give us any free beer. Since I discovered OS, we've sliced our budget in half, and our PCs have never run better."

First I was confused. Then I laughed. Then I was confused again. Then I was scared. Then I laughed a little. Then someone else saw it and started laughing so I thought I better laugh a little harder. Then when they walked away I was still confused. Then I began to cry.

Then the boss walked in and I had to turn off the computer. Then he asked me why my workstation was turned off and why I was crying. Then I started laughing again.

Anyway, he bought me a beer, so this **** must work!!!

FREE BEER ROCJKCS!~!~!

Ah, that brings back happy childhood memories of playing where we weren't supposed to be... My friend looked just like that for a week after he fell on a board with a nail in it.

OW!

Anybody else here remember the old Saturday Night Live bits with Miss Emily Lutella? "What's all this talk about endangered feces...?"

That is a terrible/horrible picture, it really needs to be taken off (i.e. gross-factor).

Oh, when I walked through Staple today and saw Office XP selling for about $700 Canadian, well, I broke out in the strangest sores, but now, at least, I know why .....................

"I'm opposed to making Puerto Rico a steak! I like it just the way it is."

"I think there should be *more* violins on TV!"

While freedom of speech and humour etc is all right I do personally feel that the picture should not have been on the front page and there should have been a warning for people not to follow the link if they were disturbed with pictures of blood and wounds. In fact quite honestly I am surprised that such a thing was posted like this since this is a place frequented by all sorts of people and we must keep everyones sensibilities in mind. I am not saying don't post it. But that it should have been done minus the photo and with a warning. And honestly I did not quite expect such a post on PPC Thoughts. Weren't we all debating the porn like(nudity) photos of an app on the front page of some software sale website a while ago? So its not okay to have nudity/porn that some find offensive on the front page and yet its okay to have disturbing wound/blood photos on the front page? I wonder how many would find nudity more disturbing than photos showing grotesque wounds/blood? I mean why get into all of this and open a whole can of worms. I would be even more disappointed if this was done with a view to increase post and/or page views. I am pretty sure it wasn't done for that but still Ed you must have known that it would become controversial.
And please don't get me wrong. Not that I am particularly disturbed by it (I didn't like it though) but I can understand how other people would be not to happy with it. I also wonder how many people here would easily get that Open Sores is a pun on Open Source and what Open Source really is? Quite honestly Ed you should have given some thought and posted it a bit differently.

I thought about it. Then about .03 seconds later, I pressed Submit.

Personlly I found it funny and not necessarily in poor taste. It is a joke and I think most everyone who comes to this site are above average in intelligence and are able to figure out the pun of Open Sores in less time than it took Ed to reconsider posting the topic. I'll leave you with two quotes (or near as I can remember). I believe it was Shakespeare who wrote "Me thinks you protest to much". My mother told me long ago "Don't take offence for other's, they will be able to take enough offense by themselves".

The blood didn't appeal to me. I'm not squeamish, but I found it to be unnecessarily overdone IMHO. If it was up to me, I would have posted these two:

http://ars.userfriendly.org/cartoons/?id=19990206

... and the real funny conclusion ...

http://ars.userfriendly.org/cartoons/?id=20010610

In fact, I'd bet that the UF cartoons were the inspiration for this parody. And the parody totally misses the real joke anyway.

Here's the beer Dave!!!

I thought Open Sores was just too funny. It's not very often I laugh out loud when sitting at my desk. It's one of those "why the heck didn't I think of that situations".

Totally gross, I love it!!
