<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.cnetradio.com' target='_blank'>http://www.cnetradio.com</a><br /><br /></div>Last month <a href="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7528">I posted a blurb</a> that CNet Radio was going to provide downloads in MP3 format which meant they would be portable and usable on your Pocket PC. It has officially launched at <a href="http://www.cnetradio.com">CNetRadio.com</a>.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/hansberry/2003/20030120-cnetradio.gif" /><br /><br />I immediately installed the download manager. It is 3MB on your PC once installed by a company called Kontiki. I was a bit disapointed that I couldn't just pull down the MP3s without needing a third party app. Does me no good to have a Pocket PC capable of WiFi if I have to have a desktop to download the content. :( Programs are available at 7:30am and 2:30am Pacific Time. They are 15 minutes each and are in huge 9MB+ files. 8O Makes me appreciate the 1.8MB 1 hour audible file format.

Ugh... not Kontiki. Perhaps there's a way around with with enough tinkering, or maybe they'll give in and remove it. I highly doubt it though. :?

I didn't even know there was a download manager! I use Mozilla as my main browser and it just gives links to the downloads :D

Tried again with IE - it makes you use that konticki thing. Must be something that detects your broswer...

Found out you can download directly from the Pocket PC. Promptly uninstalled the Download mangler from my PC.

Yes, I hate the new "direct" format. And that little Kontiki client is a real pain the @$$. Especially when you're stuck on dial-up connection, like me. Whenever the client launches it hogs up ALL of my bandwith.

The real tragedy is that CNET Radio is dead. They shutdown operations a few weeks ago. Everyone has been laid off.

All of the tech media firms are going under. TechTV will be next.

How do I download files without using Download Manager?

Thanks.

If they want us to listen, why they want us to install the Download Manager for? Then they said, it's not the Spyware.

You really think TechTV will die next? I sure hope not...that's one of my favorite cable channels, they almost always have something on that's interesting.

Please, do share!

I try to access cnetradio.com from my PPC, and then I login, but after I log-in, I get the error:
"
TF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN">
FOUND

The document has moved here."

And then the link takes me to the exact same page. What gives!?

Sorry, but it is inevitable. TechTV is owned by Paul Allen's (Microsoft co-founder) Vulcan ventures, which has been taking a huge loss on TechTV from the get go. They have struggled for a long time now to find a successful formula, but it just isn't working. First they killed "Tech Live", followed by several waves of steep layoffs, but still the network is sinking further and further into red ink. It's only a matter of time before Vulcan writes it off. Just as CNET killed CNET Radio.

I'll miss TechTV though. But it never has been the same since the "good old days" of ZDTV. Silicon Spin, Fresh Gear (when it actually was Fresh), Audio File, Screensavers (with Kate and Leo), and Internet Tonight.

CNet Radio is still on XM Satellite radio. Are these old shows they are playing?

Most likely. They can't be live shows because the entire staff has been let go, except for Brian Cooley.

I think at that point you just go back to www.cnetradio.com. By then your cookie is set. I don't remember the exact sequence of steps, but yeah, I saw that HTML 2.0 error too.

I use NetFront as my PPC browser and it downloads these MP3s just fine. (NetFront totally rocks BTW, worth every penny I spent on it.)

Not good, I just recently rediscovered my liking for it (sigh). Makes me wish I hadn't abandoned it all this time.

No Fresh Gear, no umm.. Sumi Das, no Anime Unleashed/Lain? Then there's TSS that PPCT keeps talking about...

Come on everyone, let's start watching 24x7!
