I think there should be an ipaq model like this!!!!!
400mhz XScale
64 RAM
1GB Memory
Improved Speakers
it should be marketed for being first and MP3 player and than and organizer not vice versa!!!! I would have bought something like this but there is none!!!!! Now i have to buy an ipaq and a memory upgrade and pay for useless stuff like wifi that i have no use for!!!!! (actually i bought the 3765 off ebay) but if i was going new i would have to pay for the built in wifi which i have no use for!!!!!

1GB of memory built-in? Are you nuts?? Do you realize what the cost of a unit like that would be?? 8O

How do they make mp3 players then?

NOT with 400MHz XScale processors with 64MB ROMs, among other things that a PocketPC has. :P
You're not going to find any mp3 player with a 400mhz xscale processor and a _64MB_ ROM, etc. First of all, it raises the price a great deal, and second of all those components are necessary for just playing mp3s. You don't need the fastest processor to play mp3s, I know this for a fact because I played mp3s on a 70mhz MIPS processor (uniden unipro pc100a) just fine. Also, the ROM wouldn't need to be that large since playing mp3s doesn't require an OS per se.
The hardware that makes up an mp3 player varies between mp3 players/mp3 player manufacturers. For example, a diamond rio may have more of less (better or worse?) hardware than say an offbrand mp3 player like the one that I have (Eigerman F20V).
To me, it sounds like you want a Dell Axim or similar inexpensive PocketPC without WiFi/Bluetooth?

Regarding WiFi, you're very mistaken. The only model with built-in WiFi is the 5450. You could buy the 3970, or, if you don't need Bluetooth, the 3950.
Both 3900 models have 400 MHz XScale processors, 64 MB RAM and supposedly better audio than the 5450. They also should cost less. :-)
If you want 1 GB memory, you buy a Compact Flash sleeve and an IBM MicroDrive or a 1 GB CF card. If you buy a PC Card sleeve, you can get a hard disk up to 5 GB.

I believe all MP3 players with more than 256 MB use hard disks. The iPod and the Creative Labs Nomads certainly do.

You mean the only _iPaq_ model with built-in WiFi is the 54xx series.

Actually yes, why havent we seen this kind of integration yet?
Use ce.net 4.1 or 4.2 make it a 20 gig portable HD with an added XScale and larger capacity battery and a 4 inch screen.
Load it up with a pocket version of Windows media 9 and you have a killer MP3/PDA/Movie gadget.
Hey if Ipods cal sell for 700$...

By the way, they do have devices like this. I do not recall who makes them, but they are out there if you look hard enough.
Update: Ok, I did find something close to what you are talking about: the (Diamond) Rio Riot. It's $180.

Actually they don't sell for that high at all, Apple.com sells them for $199 (under Special Deals on their site).

Considering the thread topic is iPAQs and we're in the HP iPAQ forum, I thought that was obvious. :-)

Didn't see that, but it sounded like you meant the only pocketpc model nonetheless :)

I'm quite aware of the Toshiba e740 having built-in WiFi (are there any others?). Given that the thread title is "A new iPAQ model", saying "the only model" in that context implies "the only iPAQ model". Had I been unaware of other Pocket PCs with WiFi, I would have said "the only Pocket PC", not "the only model".
Sorry if there was some confusion. I've learned to look at the forum that posts were in after geting confused myself. :-)

This is starting to get a bit off topic but do any of you have Axims? I have heard tons of problems with them!!!! Some games from Zioware do not work *well* on Axims too!
The hardware specs seem to good to be true(because of the low prices)!! They must have some serious flaw right?

No, the Dell doesn't have any notable flaws, except MAYBE the D-Pad being a little finicky, but then if you do get the problem, you can exchange it with Dell and get a new one with a better D-Pad.
Also, as far as I know, all PocketPC games work just fine on it. I haven't heard anything about Zioware games not working (?).

Yes in a review of Age of the Empires it said that if you have an Axim The cursor will occasionally move off screen and wont come back and you will need to reset your game!

That sounds like either an OS or software issue. Sounds like an error on the developer's part or similar. Also, like I said before, it may have been a defective device that the game was tested with. And Dell gives you free replacements.

LOL you guys are f****** cracked LOL, ok I hear where your coming from about the whole MP3 thing but that is stupid, do you realize how many customers would be lost if you did that! also between Ram/Rom/and you incredible Hard Disk, the iPAQ would be like 7 inches big! with a smaller screen cuz the digitizer takes up room too, get some sleep that thought is crazy
Jake
P.S. you know how sloowwww a hard disk runs, don't you think manufacturs have thought about that before, they have! it only runs fast enough to stream mp3's and crap just storage not for the running of apps!
P.S.S. What cursor a.o.e. doesn't use a cursor nutballs!

You're not going to find a 20gb flash card, no matter what format. 5GB and up are usually Hard Drives (usually in the format of PCMCIA).

I never said 20gb! I did however say:
1GB Memory
And they do make these!

Do you realize how much a 1GB CompactFlash card would add to an already pricey device that you're describing? 8O It would add about $200 more, and that's for the cheapest (and slowest) 1GB CF Card. You'll probably want a faster Read/Write speed, like say 16x, which'll cost more. :?
