The faster a network operates, the more calls, Web pages, e-mails or other services can go through.

Lucent's "turbo decoder" for cell phone handsets, developed by the company's Bell Labs and unveiled Tuesday, can translate those bits and bytes back into voices or Web pages at very high speeds--about 24mbps. That's a quantum leap from the 2.4mbps speeds managed by Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo's network, the fastest commercial wireless network around."

Well I see someone is hitting phone sites for news.

But yes Lucent Labs. By the way a KANSAS company based in Shawnee Mission still does a lot. Sprint PCS and Lucent work together on projects constantly. I believe Lucent does a lot with some of the other Telecom Companies too. Lucent started out as Bell labs and broke off in to it's own thing. Now a lot of the Phone technology that we use is based on their stuff.
