View Full Version : More odd 5450 behaviour

In the 3 weeks I've had my 5450 I'd had to do 3 hard resets, several daily soft resets and several full restores after weird things like the iTask menu got corrupted. It's most common problem is totally losing the wireless connection - it says it's on but the LED isn't on and it can't connect. It's done this 4 or 5 times and each time it needs the battery removing. But today it came up with a new one. It had been fine last night and had been put into the cradle over night ready for a demo to a client this morning. When I got up, it had a task alert on the screen, but the screen wouldn't respond to any presses, and no buttons worked. When I took it out of the cradle it went totally dead - no LEDs and nothing would wake it. Back in the cradle it would switch on and go to the password page, but the screen alignment had gone haywire and it was impossible to judge where to press to enter the password. In the end I had to do a hard reset and restore a backup from the weekend.

I love my 5450, it's got so many cool features, but it's gotta to be the flakiest bit of kit I've ever seen. If it were a TV or something they would never have got away with releasing it like this. I've never had to hard reset my TV cos it stuck on 1 channel! :)

Have you tried returning this unit for a new one? I've had a 5450 since the begining of December and haven't had any problems with it.

I haven't considered returning while all the things I experience seem to be experienced by many people. I'll give it a bit more time yet, and maybe see if they release any new firmware or anything! I hate sending stuff back, takes so long and you nearly always get the same crap back! :)

Wow, I hope you get it straightened out. I haven't had much trouble with mine, I love this unit. The only thing I had issue with besides crappy real player(not HP's fault), was the activesync thing, but I think I figured it out. I'm gonna put up a post about it. Good luck!

Hamslay,

I'm having the exact same problem.

Which bit exactly, or all of them!?

hamslay, if you're having these problems and others aren't, it kind of looks like this may not necessarily be addressable via a firmware upgrade.

I'd start comparing installed apps with rsajdak to see if you see any commonalities. Perhaps the issue is due to specific apps misbehaving?

Hard resets are hella serious!!

rsajdak? OK, I'm running OmegaOne's Battery Pack 2003, O2 ISP's Mobile Web software, Resco's File Explorer and Picture Viewer, Pocket MVP, Spb's GPRS Monitor, FlexWallet and Acrobat Reader. That's it. Not much. Nothing amazing.

I had Real One Player on but it was almost useless so I took it off.

I think one possible problem is that the soft reset is too easy!! If, for example, an app goes into a loop trying to do something for 20 seconds, it's easy to just do a reset cos in 5 seconds it's all running again. On a normal PC you'd just wait for the error message but on the Pocket PC where the "hung" application is full screen I know I get tempted to just reset. Maybe I'm a bit quick to give up on the "hourglass" screen and that causes problems?

I too am using Battery Pack, Acrobat Reader. Also, I'm running Cadenza and Infosync. The machine will freeze up almost every other day and I have to hard reset it.

Does anyone think it's a software conflict or is my device needing repair/replacement?
