With all this talk about bus speed being the only important thing, does processor speed really matter? I'm looking to use mine for eBooks, DivX playback, and high-end games like Age of Empires. Has anyone done a head-to-head with the two speeds? (The extra memory in the 400mhz version doesn't really matter, given that I'm planning on a 1GB CF card)

IMO the 100mhz will make a difference. Playback of DIVX will be smoother. You should also notice a difference in the use of file explorer, etc. Of course you could always but 1 of the overclocking programs and put your unit up to 400mhz when you want to.

the main thing with the 400mhz version, is the extra memory, the sweet cradle 8) with the ability to charge a second battery, and of course the 400mhz CPU.

Odds are the 300mhz version will be just as good for what you want to use it for.

Yes you can overclock the 300 to 400mhz, but you can also take the 400 to 500mhz...

trust me, the extra memory, not on a CF/SD card will come in handy.
do you want a sync cable? or a cradle that lights up and shines cool with that chrome finish? with both your standard and extra battery in it?

Personaly I got the 400mhz version. but i'm a power user. :)

IMHO, the people that say bus speed is the only factor impacting the Xscales' performance are Microsofties looking to shield their beloved MS from criticism or are generally anti-Intel for some reason.

I personally believe it is a combination of Hardware and Software, if it was Bus Speed only then you wouldn't see performance improvements from Xscale optimized software which you do.

If you don't believe me try Pocket TV and Pocket TV Enterprise Edition both on an Xscale.

Rant over!
