or do you want to fetch powerpoint files via Wi-fi (or BT) while presenting via the PDA via cable, BT or infrared?

Coolest way I've found to do this is with SlideCommander from the Pebbles project. Using any kind of IP connection from iPAQ to laptop, (best with WiFi), I can wonder around the room while giving my presentation. No line of sight needed.

My speaker notes and the next slide are displayed on the device. I see all the bullets and transitions before the audience sees them so i know what's coming next.

I can annotate/scribble on the device and it shows on the presentation. This combo works really well.

The problem with the first option is that it uses a set of JPEG images. You lose your transitions, hyperlinks etc.

With Pebbles, I have full control over a full PowerPoint. I can control my transitions. I can launch hyperlinks, web connections and video clips all from the device...because the heavy hitting is being done by the laptop.

So I'm not saving traveling weight...but the freedom and flexibility while presenting is wonderful.
