View Full Version : 3835 & Cracked Screen

I've managed to crack the screen on a 3835. 'Ground Zero' is roughly .25" in from the left edge and approx .75" up from the bottom edge. The primary area affected is fairly circular, but has some 'spidering' going out from there.

What concerns me most is that I don't seem to be able to 'align the screen' now. When I first discovered the damage, I could tap most areas of the screen and the device would function normally. But there were places (oddly enough, not those most heavily damaged) where tapping the screen actually caused a different fucntion to be performed. E.g., if I brought up the 'itask' settings window, tapping on the middle of the 3 bottom buttons caused the 'Power' window to come up (as though I had tapped the right most button). Obviously, in this particular area, the alignment was considerably off.

So thought I'd give a hard reset a try. Was able to make a full backup via ActiveSync before proceeding and that all went well. But now that I've done the reset, I can't get the setup process to go beyond the 'Align Screen' portion. I can tap each location the 'cursor' goes to and it *acts* as though it has responded appropriately and moves on to the next location. But it seems to be stuck in a loop. Each time I get to the last location to tap, I do and then see a *momentary* flash as though it's going to proceed to the next section of the setup process, but instead, it starts the Align Screen thing all over again. I've tried a 2nd hard reset and a couple soft resets, but can't seem to get past this point.

From the looks of things, the LCD itself *appears* to be ok (don't see any dead pixels there). It looks as though only the screen is physically damaged.

Anyone else ever experience anything similar? IF just a screen repair would solve the problem, I'd probably send it off to PPCTechs to do the dirty work (it is out of warranty). But anything much more than that I'm not sure would be worth the investment.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Yeah, first thing I thought of as I was reading this was PPCTechs... was about to hit respond and recommend them until I read your final paragraph.

Good luck.

A cab ran over my Siemens SX56. Sent it back to Seimens repair (it was ONLY 1 month old). They replaced the case, LCD and Main Board (WHAT ELSE IS THERE???? LOL), for $215.00.
