View Full Version : SD vs SDIO slot on my 1910

Hi there. I just bought a 1910 and wondered what it CAN'T do since the SD slot is not SDIO? I keep reading that this is a shortcoming of the 1910, but I'm not sure what it means for me. Does it mean I'll never be able to add a keyboard or a wireless modem?

Thanks in advance! Sorry if my question is ignorant.

The SD slot on the 1910 allows you to use it for memory cards only.

You need to have SDIO to be able to use other SD devices such as cameras and wireless cards like Bluetooth or WiFi.

I remember reading somewhere that it might be possible to make the SD slot into SDIO although I don't know if that is a fact.

Hey, at least you have the smallest, coolest looking PPC on the market.

Unfortunately, the rumoured SDIO for the 1910 turned out to be that, a rumour. The Intel Xscale prosessor supports SDIO natively, however the 1910 doesn't have the required hardwired connections.

Could you explain please? What are the "required hardwired connections" the lack of which prevent developers from accessing the native SDIO capabilities of the X-Scale processor.

Check out these posts (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=66416#66416) on an earlier thread started by Ed.

However, it's actually not clear either way if the 1910 has the wiring to support SDIO or not. It might, or it might not. We haven't gotten a straight answer on this yet.

Thank you. That is what I thought also.

This has nothing to do with the 1910, but do any of you know whether the Ipaq 3870 has SDIO or not? It does not say anywhere.

Unfortunately, no. And it'll never exist on the 3870.

You're not the only one. I have a 3870 too. I ended up getting a CF+ sleeve, which isn't a terrible choice, although it does make the unit bigger.

See, and I refuse to pay so much money for extra weight, and extra bulk if I don't even know how much longer I am going to use it. If rumours about some 2200 device with SD(IO?) AND built-in Compact Flash coming up this year are true, why even bother.

But thanks anyways! Now at least I know not to be too excited about SD cameras and the like hitting the market

Well, I had bought mine quite a few months ago. If you plan on keeping your 3870 in the future, consider investing in a Silver Slider...
