So, Master O'Mayhem I suppose you already have one of these. :-)

I think the Palm calmshell device would be a very cool Pocket PC. Someone must be working on something like this.

Just the one? I'd suspect he has at least the Smartphone and the CDMA PPC PE. :D

Hmmm....saw this article back in the early Fall and thought I had learned about it from this site, guess not. Anyways, here is some of the more interesting information I've learned from reading the various message boards dedicated to each specific device (www.smartphoneforums.com).

Samsung I500
Carrier: Sprint
Rumored Release: March - August
Speakerphone: highly debated subject but likely none
SD slot: none
Processor: 66mhz
External Caller ID display: none
OS: Palm 4.1

Samsung I600
Carrier: Verizon
Rumored release: ?????? (not seen even a guess)
SD slot: yes
External Caller ID Display: yes
OS: MS Smartphone 2002 (not PPC)
Note: no touchscreen

Samsung I700
Carrier: Sprint and possibly Verizon (was running on Verizon over at CES)
Rumored Release: Summer 2003
SD slot: yes
OS: PPC PE
Note: you turn the phone around to talk thus you don't smudge the screen with facial oils (at least that's what the reports I've read say, I see what appears to be a microphone hole on the front of the phone though)
Note: camera supports video conferencing
Note: X-Scale CPU?????

Ohhhhh baby 8) . The more pics I see of this the more drool that builds up on my desk (pretty pitiful, I know)... I absolutely HAVE to get one. :D :D I wish we knew when Sprint will make the i700 available, this thing is making my pants go crazy. 8O I, for one, will be lined up at my local Sprint store as soon as it's released!!

Ya know - I hate to say this, but I really like touch-sensitive screens, and the option of using a stylus for input.

So, for me, the "Stinger" version of the clam-shell that Samsung shows isn't as compelling as the Palm OS version of the same basic design - while I like the Stinger-version's external mini-LCD for caller-ID, I even more like the integrated Graffiti area on the Palm version.

I guess I would like to see the size of the one at the bottom - the Samsung Pocket PC Phone Edition, it's the first really new one I've seen after the Verizon/T-Mobile one.

Hmmm... decisions, decisions.

BabelFish translation is hilarious. Useful, but hilarious nontheless.

I am glad to know that the new phones came from the Samsung "undergarment radio enterprise headquarters."

See the following paragraph from the Babelfish translation:

"The Anycall the name which is the poem which it will dance from the Samsung Electronics undergarment radio enterprise headquarters at model life of the product which it comes to attach in the hand phone product which it does, the report which is a composition which already from domestic the Anycall hand phone prefers considerably in 011 transformation numbers as will come out, the product and pu probably is the land, power belongs in the considerably high side."

This is old news however. The SCH-i600 has been on PhoneScoop for ages. In fact, the FCC approved this phone in August 2002.

Now, bear in mind that this is a Microsoft Smartphone 2002 product. The only phone that has launched using this platform is the SPV from Orange, and only in Europe. I've been following this thing like a hound on a fox because this is the phone of phones for me. There are plenty of problems with the product in Europe and users are clamoring for a software update. Even so, they love their SPV!

I can't find anything, anywhere that leads me to believe MS/Verizon/Samsung will launch this baby in the USA anytime soon.

Was VERY disappointed that the press announcements at CES includes the i500, the i700, and the Hitachi PPCPE but nary a word on the i600.

Please Mr. Gates. Roll out Smartphone in the USA. We are ready!

The best line from the Babelfish translation has got to be
"will dance from inside next year candle "

"... it will dance from the Samsung Electronics undergarment radio enterprise headquarters..." So, is that a prototype smartphone in your undergarment or are you just happy to see me? :D

The Pocket PC Phone looks sweet! I'm stuck with a commitment to Sprint, but this might make it worthwhile. Or maybe the Hitatchi? Although that looks L O N G.

I can't imagine Sprint not stepping up with some kind of Stinger phone being they obviously support Microsoft's stategies (two PPCPE models and all).

I'm actually hoping that Sprint gives us a branded version of the Tanager (http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?id=236) as it is, IMHO, much more attractive.

I agree that the Tanager is very attractive, as a phone. It is perfect for people who want a phone that does data and programs. I really want a Pocket PC that also does phone calls. Different strokes.

OK folks. Here is as much rumor as I have.

First Sprint PCS says they will be releasing new phones come late April and NOT before that. Speculation guesses and educated guesses all but these phones happening just before the end of the second quarter.

For those of you wanting a Sprint PCS Smartphone Let me say that Sanyo has a 7000 series in the works. Rumors have made it either an OLED phone or a MS Smartphone.

Also lets not forget that most CDMA phones can be made to work on either Sprint PCS or Verizon with very little work from the ODM.

Now let me say I had written an Email to HTC asking about CDMA and in their responce they did not deny it but instead said they could not discuss anything as they have NDAs. That says a lot to me right there.

If I were MS I would be dying to get my phones in to America. Unfortunately America is not the tech mecha of the world, and yeah it sucks but what can we do?

I've been extremely interested in the Samsung i600 ever since the FCC photos.

I spent like 4 hours going through Google results trying to find more information on this beast, and found the following:

I've read reports of release during Q1 2003 (on CNet), and have also read reports of release during CTIA (March 17-19) - This was from a Samsung exec, can't find the link anymore. They seem to compliment each other, so I suspect we'll see them released from Samsung in late March if everything goes all right.

Here are some more pictures for your viewing enjoyment:
