I have an iPaq 3800 series and a WCF12 Linksys card. Half of the time I insert the card, I get an error message stating, unrecognized card, enter driver name. What do I do?

Only insert it the other half of the times :). Sorry, couldn't help that.

Does it actually pick it up correctly most (or half) the time? Do you have some other devices you use in the CF slot? My Jornada seems to have a decent time re-recognizing the last card I had in there. If I pull a camera and then put ina NIC, it seems to have more problems. I have rarely had it ask for drivers though on something that has been installed. Usually it just ignores the card until I soft reset.

The card is totally unpredictable. Some days it will work fine, then other days I will reinsert the card over and over, nothing changing until a sof reset. Linksys really needs to update the driver utility. It looks like it was wrillen for a landscape PPC. And no, so far the only card that has been used in the slot is the WCF12.

Why remove the card at all if it's the only card used?

I know what you mean about the Linksys driver; my SMC WiFi driver looks like it was written for a Handheld PC, too.

Won't it draw power hunting for a network? Or can you turn it off?

The Socket drivers are pretty decent, but I wish they had ASCII encryption fields as opposed to just Hex...

I have to reinsert the card when it loses the connection. The card also becomes unrecognized after a soft-reset. Are there any other drivers that work the WCF12? [
Janak- The radio can be disabled but the light blinks, so I don't know if it is really off.

Good point. My PCMCIA WiFi card works like ipaq38vette said -- you can turn the radio off, but the light still blinks (which seems stupid to me, especially as it blinks when there's no connection, too). Even if the radio isn't drawing power, that stupid light will. :-(

Wow, that sounds like a bad card (bad in the sense of troublesome, not malfunctioning). Do you have to reinsert the card after you power off your iPAQ? That causes a lost connection, too. My SMC WiFi PC Card doesn't require reinsertion when I power off.

Also, my card is always recognized after a soft reset. In fact, there are times when my WiFi drivers won't recognize that the card is inserted, and a soft reset is the only way to get the card working again. :-( (That problem seemed to become worse after I switched from SMC's drivers to the generic Intersil PRISM drivers so that I could use PocketWarrior.)

After powering back on sometimes the card will reconnect and other times the card will scan forever, even if right next to the transmitter. It will not allow a cenniction until a soft reset. This is not a very reliable prodect.

Since you've used nothing else in the CF slot, does this thing have desktop drivers? If so, have you tried it in a laptop? It might help to narrow down whether the problem is with the CF sleeve or the card itself.

The card has been used by 2 sleeves. I used the CF Expansion and then upgraded to the CF Expansion plus for the battery. The card had problems in both.
