View Full Version : Transcriber killed my penmanship!

I had to write a paragraph with a real pen today on paper and man was I surprised to see what a mess of chicken scratch my penmanship has turned into.

I've been using transcriber for the last couple of months (Out of stubborn will to find a faster way to input text into my Ipaq without a keyboard or pecking the soft keyboard.). Between that and all other correspondence being made by computer, I'm getting concerned that I may have to be retrained how to write with a pen. Maybe on those velvet letter boards the teacher used to make you put your finger on and mock write each letter.

That's an interesting observation... most people I know have said that their penmenship has improved after using transcriber as your handwriting must be extremely good in order for it to be recognized! Mine sure has.

You should have seen my handwriting after 2 years of using grafitti. :D Transcriber actually improved my handwriting to a significant degree that I feel secure writing snail mail again. To retain that feel, I use one of those stylus pens. :D

Interesting. I wouldn't say my writing before was a work of art, but what I noticed is that my i,r,d,b,g,e are all different than the rest of my writing. I typically write in all caps, so it looks like a ransom note now with a mix of different character styles.

I think that transcriber has improved my handwriting. It has forced me to properly form some of my letters. Image what my handwriting would be like if they tought Kindergardeners to write with a PPC instead of paper .

It certainly has improved my handwriting. Although i dig get cramped up with o's and t's because i'm lefthanded. But i swithed to paragraph's calligrapher now, and that problem is gone again :)

heh......this is a common thread on most multi-platform and Palm based boards. Welcome to the club ;)

I think part of the problem is that when using transcriber you actually "see" your scrawl, as opposed to Grafitti where you just scrawl away and don't pay attention....unless you do it wrong.....even then, you just modify your stroke until you get the letter you want......no actuall LOOKING at your own pathetic chicken scratch. I know though TS is very similar to how I used grafitti with hacks, I still can't do it as fast as I can grafitti on my Visor. I'd venture to say, most PDA users have chicken scratch........what would it look like if you were 60wpm on Fitaly?
All your letters would look like little dandelions

i think i'm the most unlucky fellow here, my writting is really bad, even transcriber never recognize 70% of my writting :?

That's why my writing is different today than prior to my trying transcriber. Maybe my writing wasn't as good as I thought and it has improved. :?:

hey, maybe by using transcriber more, i can improove my hand-writing, is it something like this:
if transcriber can recognize 100 % of my writting, means my writting is legible isn't it so :?:

Hmm, you've upgraded from Chicken Scratch Level 3 to Chicken Scratch Level 2?

Seriously, I didn't have this problem, but I don't write all-caps. I had the Graffiti-problem for a few days when I got my first Palm, but that faded away. You might want to try using Fitaly, which is what I'm learning now. It's fast and non-stroke. It does have a steep curve, though.

I have gotten used to grafitti with my ex-Palm (I said *EX* okay!) :-)

I had to jot a quick note the other day and my T's were all funny,
and my E's were weird... Not to mention my A's... Oh no, not me too!

Well I'm impressed with all of you!

I have a 0% recognition on transcriber, but then I can't read my own handwriting anyway!

I use the letter recogniser on my XDA, which I know is slower than transcriber, but as transcriber can't recognise anything I write, it actually works out faster!

Oh for voice recognition...

Lol, My handwriting is unreconizable (I spelled that wrong). I have only used graffiti for a year now. (well, it wasn't that good before either :-( )

LOL!!! Yeah, I think that should be a requirement... being able to recognize your own handwriting before expecting a machine recognize it...

Transcriber is a God send after working with graffitie! I use everything but the keyboard one time or another, transcriber works great if Im not in a hurry, else Block works good for me cause I graduated from the (UGG!) Palm. :-)
