The swedish DELL site has put up the Axim X5 for sale. And that is good, but the prices are strange.
The 300Mhz version costs 2.200 SEK (€237 or $256) and thats fine :D .
But the 400 Mhz version costs 6.000 SEK (!!!) (€646 or $698) and that is ridiculous :x
All prices without Taxes.
Whats up with these prices. How can DELL justify such a big difference for some extra 32 MB RAM and 100 Mhz CPU speed?

Makes your buying decision pretty easy! :D Even with only $100 difference in the US, I have often debated whether it was worth that much more for the 400 Mhz model.

As an owner of the 300 Mhz model, I have never wished for more CPU power, but what I have regretted is having only 32mb ROM/RAM. It's astonishing how easily a few small installed utilities can eat up the storage side of the memory graph. And the smaller ROM has only about 5mb free to utilize as storage, which is of minimal benefit.
Given that you need to keep a good portion of RAM available for programs to run (my poor Axim felt unhealthy the times I got below 10mb free, and some programs wouldn't run at all), I do wish I had thrown extra money at the problem in the first place, rather than relying on storage cards and forever worrying about where each little file or program goes.

Well, I can get a storage card for $50(128-256Mb), the higher Axim would have been $100 for only 32Mb of memory. Storage card sounds like the better deal to me.
I do wish I'd gotten the cradle though, would be so nice to have, and cheaper at time of purchase. I'm not paying $40 to get one now!

faster, more non volatile storage space, more Ram ensuring flawles operation of larger apps and of course the cradle.
Sounds like money well spend to me.

Putting RAM and CPU aside, I would pay $100 more JUST for the extra ROM. Who knows what the requirements will be for future OSs.

That sure is very strange, are you sure it isn't some kind of typing mistake? I have just ordered the 400 mhz version here in Denmark and including taxes it costs 3425 danish kr. I can't see why it should be that different in Sweeden.

Looks like it was a typo on  the Dell web site. the price went down the day after my original post to 3,190 SEK (€346,66 or $371,69 ) excluding taxes. Now thats more like it!
We ordered three of theese the other day. Will be fun to se how they work in real life. 8)
