Not what I was expecting, his answers were very balanced, well though out and the interview showed a three dimensional person, not the one that is sometimes manifested here.

Glad to see that he's able to un-plug as well!

Quite an interesting read, I must say.

Very baanced, but why no mention of Symbian OS, Nokia et al? Surely they are more important than Palm viz a viz volume of units sold (2 million 7650's) compared to the3 million iPaqs sold in 2002?

Can these two OS' sit side by side?

Oh, and Jason -- nice hairdo. ;)

Hey, what's wrong with my hair cut? I'm "hip" and "cool". Or at least that's what my mom tells me...

Get a haircut like Wolverine (Logan) and then you will truly be a hip Canadian.

Yet Microsoft seems perfectly content to let scenarios like that exist on the Pocket PC. Pocket PC performance is held back on many levels, and needs to be drastically improved - the whole Xscale debacle is proof of this. Performance matters, and I want to see Microsoft acknowledge.

Glad to see that you are still a vocal advocate for MS rectifying some of the more glaring bugs and omissions in the PocketPC OS. Too often enthusiast sites, especially ones where the site owner/editor has close contacts with MS, seem all too cozy with MS and fail to sound the call for improvements where needed. I know it's a tough balancing act but looks like you have mastered the tightrope. :) Great interview and I can't wait for your digital enthusiast site to open.

Jason, just out of curiosity, you complain about the speed of current 2.5G standards, specifically Rogers' GPRS service... have you tried Telus' 1xRTT?? I've read reports in quite a few places (none of them comparing Rogers/Telus), that say 1xRTT in real world situations delivers significantly faster connections than GPRS.

Yup, you look just like I imagined you would, perhaps thinner. :-)

Scarily your haircut is similar to mine. :P

I will read the interview on the way to work.

Hey, you're the one who had the poll option where we could voice dissatisfaction with your haircut. :D

The real question is not what your mom thinks, but what Ashley thinks. ;)

1xRTT is definitely a faster technology, but I don't consider an iPAQ + PCMCIA sleeve + 1xRTT PCMCIA card a "real world solution". Once 1xRTT CompactFlash cards are availble in my market, or devices like the CDMA-based HTC Pocket PC, 1xRTT will be a very potent solution.

Great interview, Jason. You looked pretty much like I thought you would. You and I enjoy PC's for the same reason - for the love of learning. I hope you get your T-Moble back. One device is great!

Nice interview Jason.

You're quoted to have said, "One of my jobs at Spb is to listen to the feedback we get on our applications. A key audience for us are the enthusiasts - the power-users who frequent the top Pocket PC Web sites."

I'm sure you've "listened" to the feedback about SPB's PocketPlus problems on the Axim listed

I promise to become an advocate of crew-cut hairdo's if you could reassure us that a fix is on the way? Soon?

You are using PocketPlus on your Axim now, aren't you?

What a lovely compliment.

Would that some of the rest of us be as complimented were we to visit the public eye in such a fashion!

Well said, PlayAgain? :D

Great Interview Jason!

Just one item that stuck out to me. In the interview you said "Spb understands developers, and when we saw there wasn't a good tool for application distribution, we built one and gave it away to the developer community.

EZsetup was orginally developed by Scott Ludwig, who released the code to the general community. I know Spb's website clearly gives credit to Scott for the original design as I too use EZSetup 2.0 and was a user of 1.1 of Scott's. It's just the interview is a bit misleading that's all.

Nuts. I asked John Tidwell (the interviewer) to change all references to EZSetup to EZSetup 2.0 specifically for that reason - Vassili at Spb pointed that out to me, and we wanted to be as accurate as possible. I'll see if I can get that fixed. Thanks for keeping us all honest! :D

I'm a little taken aback by the attitude you're giving me in this post, but since I don't want to start a flame war, I'm just going to ignore it and ask you to read my post in this thread. (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7555&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=pocketplus&start=10) If that doesn't satisfy you, please email me directly for further discussion.

 I'm so sorry to have given you the impression that my post had attitude, Jason. I never meant it to come across that way! I respect you. I bought your book (and read it too). Heck, I even married a Canadian (13 years ago)! Please forgive my feeble writing abilities. (Guess I need to use more smiley emoticons)

Also, thank you for responding to the Axim PocketPlus questions that many of us have had. The silence from you and SPB about the issue has been frustrating, but I'm excited to know that a new version is on the way! :P

It's nice to be able to get things sorted out decently. :P

I did think your orginal post was bit harsh BoiseNative, but good for you for clarifying it in that way. We can all come accross a bit harshly now and again on the web. :?

I can't stress this enough: no one emailed me. No one asked me about Pocket Plus 1.2. If the assumption is that I'm reading 100% of the posts on this site, please read this (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7118&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0) - I no longer have the bandwidth to read everything on the site, so unless someone emails me an URL saying "Please read this and comment", I don't see it (other than front-page posts).

As for Spb, there's no excuse for not responding to customers and telling them SOMETHING, even if it's "We can't discuss future projects right now."

Hope that clears this up once and for all. Pocket Plus 1.2 is coming soon, and it ROCKS. :D

Who are you calling vicious???? 8O

They aren't: :evilbat:,

they are in fact: .

(As far as I can tell as I've never had once as a pet - I prefer cats ).

Those avatar name choices come back to haunt us no?

(Looking forward to the Axim fixes in the new release BTW - just ordered one :P)
