I just made the switch from Palm to PPC. (3955). I was wondering if there was a program out there that would actually shut down the program when I hit the ( X ) in the corner or do I need to always use the ITask manager?

I love iTask but without a taskbar component it is a hassle to use it to close programs. (Although when properly customized iTask is one of the most powerful tools available for the Pocket PC.) There are many recommendations but here are my personal suggestions:

Magic Button: http://www.trancreative.com/mb/ Brand new
Pelmar WISBar: http://www.pelmarinc.com - Most popular
vBar: http://www.vieka.com/vbar.htm
GigaTask: http://www.gigatask.com - a Super iTask
Spb's Pocket Plus: http://www.softspb.com/products/pocketplus/index.html

I hope this makes the issue clear as mud. (Browse all the options and pay attention to the screen shots to see which operates in the most logical way for you.)

Xscale but StrongARM is also fully compatible.

Is it ARM, MIPS, or SH3 ????

All xscale processors are ARM based.

Thank you very much. I do appreciate it.

Why add more overhead to your iPaq when iTask does the job. You press the iTask button, hold your stylus against the list of opened applications and select "close all" from the list of choices.

I've tried the other task managers only to come back to iTask.

If there is a program out there that actually closes the application when you hit the upper right corner "X", please let me know.

i recommend GigaBar

i've created an instruction page here (the part about GigaBar is towards the bottom):

anyway gigabar is a very powerful method for launching and closing programs as well as monitoring memory/battery and copying/pasting/selecting and screen capture.

Ow, my brain hurts just from looking at the instructions. You wonder why with all the computing resources available, that GigaBar should be easier to install.

I guess I'm getting too old for this power user stuff.

Spb's Pocket Plus can do this as does Magic Button and WISBar/IcBar...

But yes, iTask absolutely rocks, especially when customized. GigaTask works for non-iPAQs

True true. I've used several different programs, but the power of GigaBar has left me always coming back...

To be able to access all my settings with a few different strokes is definitely convenient...

I agree, Gigabar is a very powerful taskbar program, but I found I didn't need that many options so I went back to wisbar.
I like that wisbar let's you touch the close button to minimize or touch and hold to close the app.

I used GigaBar on my 3650, because Qutilities didn't really cut it. I liked the look (when skinned), but found it confusing for much more than switching and closing programs. It also seemed to slow my iPAQ down a lot when drawing the bar.

When I switched to my 3870, I didn't reinstall GigaBar. iTask is pretty good (although I wish they would support more than 10 or 11 programs per button; it looks like there's room for two or three more items).
