I am using the HP Printer software that allows to print to IR, Bluethooth, and some network printers. In one of our computers labs on campus , there is an HP LaserJet that I can print to over IR. It works fine for Word and Excel, but are there drivers that will allow to print a .pdf?

That's exactly what I'm looking for. Did you ever find something to accomplish this?

There is at least one solution. JetCet coupled with a ClearVue PDF viewer. It's not free though.

I'd recommend going for the whole sha-bang on the Clearvue though.

The ClearVue Suite may do what you want... but realize what it is before you purchase it... I only looked at it briefly... and from what I remember it only allows you to view your documents... it does not allow you to modify them...

In other words... it is only a document viewer...

If I am wrong... I apologize and I am sure someone will correct me...

After going back and re-reading the original post, I think I misunderstood exactly what Guinness was after. You answered my question perfectly, but I think I asked the wrong question.

What I'm looking for is the ability to print TO a PDF file, just like CutePDF Writer (http://www.cutepdf.com/Products/CutePDF/writer.asp) allows you to do in Windows.

i.e. When shopping online you're usually presented with a receipt of some kind and a message that says something like "Print this for your records". Instead of wasting paper, I print items like this to a PDF file and save it in My Documents. It would be great to be able to do something similiar while on the PPC.

I've spent some time searching for native Pocket PC solutions, but found none. Then, I've moved to Java because there're a lot of PDF generator libs for Java.

I've tried Orinoco ( http://andykhan.com/orinoco/ ) by trying to hack the fundamentally JDK1.1-compliant JEODE to use some 1.2 libraries. The libraries worked OK; Orinoco didn't.

As there're tons of other Java-based PDF generator libraries, but my free time limited: are you interested in Java-based solutions at all? That is, you would put your HTML/XML source somewhere in the file system and start a Jeode command file. Jeode would store the output in another file. If that kind of "interaction" is OK with you (and is also installing Jeode, which is quite a memory hog - with the 1.1 libraries, some 5M from the main memory), tell me, and I continue searching / hacking.

Have you not tried Adobe Reader's print function? It works seamlessly with HP Mobile Printing. Open the PDF file in Adobe Reader 2.0, tap the little arrow in the bottom left which should bring up the main menu. Select Print, and HP Mobile Printing should do the rest.
