Look at this:

This is like the hot rod color of PDAs. This stirrs something deep inside me and makes me want one, even though it runs on Palm OS and has the old MS slot (making cards over 128MB impossible to use).
If a Palm OS handheld can do this, just think what a fire-orange 5455 would do. 8) :D

They could just make faceplates, but I always felt those feel cheap, although it would allow greater color variety. Or if you're really careful, you could piant the case, but that would probably rub off.

Ironically, I get the exact opposite perception. I thought, "Yuk!" immediately when I saw it. I like the 1910's understated style, for example. Simple yet classy looking.

Simple? Yes. Classy? Yes. Boring? Yes.
I can imagine every time I pull out a Pocket PC of this color I can think "Wow! It's so hot, it's on fire! 8) " Pulling out a Pocket PC that is a color other than grey can make you look at the PDA itself, not just the screen. Why do you think cars are made in diferent colors?

Shoot... I saw that and all I kept thinking was...
"Would you like Fries with that?"

I voted that I want color variety, but I don't want that orangey-red. And I'll skip the neat colors if it would make the unit more expensive (as I suspect it would).
That being said, I think BLUE is the best color, followed by BLACK and PURPLE.

Variety would be great. Look at what the coloured covers did for sales of mobile phones for Nokia. As I recall, the 5110 was the highest selling phone for ages. Remember the colured iMacs.
If PPCs became fashion accessories then sales would escalate (especially at the low end of the scale with the iPAQ 1910 and base level Dell.

I'm not sure I like the Red/Orange color, but I do like the idea of having color choices. If I remember Casio had a line of colored Pocket PC's, but only offered the choices on there low-end models. How did those do, sales wise?
I'm all for anything that lets us personalize our device. I think most people agree, how else can you explain the popularity of themes, or on cell-phones, unique ring tones. People like to be different, just not "too" different.

EM500 was the Casio - I had one, good screen, huge size, small memory, CRAPPY service dept. A time better off forgotten.

The multicolored PDA's tend to be the less expensive ones, e.g. EM500 and Palm 1xx.

Sick! That thing is so gross. This thing is bringing back bad memories of the nasty acid trip iMac.http://www.taxan.co.jp/product/shou/image/imac.jpg
I like my case to be simple, not flashy. I like the look of brushed metal.

I hadn't thought about that until now. That probably isn't completely coincidental either. The population that companies are aiming for with low-end devices are people that haven't entered the PDA market and those folks tend to be less techy. Colors may add something for that crowd.

That plus the EM500 was tailored to the younger MP3 segment. A "cool, trendy" MP3 player that also is functional at school.
I bought mine because of the price point. At the time the $400 EM500 was low end on both price and features. I actually returned it for quality issues and got a Meastro for $250 (after rebates) and pocketed the rest of the money!!

I voted yes, but what I really want is not more device color choices, but rather more case choices.......specifically I'd like a really nice leather case for my iPAQ 3975 plus SS2 that's good looking, well-fitting, and not black or brown.

Personally, I'd like a black Pocket PC with silver trim instead of the opposite which we have so many of now. :)

Right. I purposely avoided using the word "orange" in the poll because I knew that the orange color might not appeal to all people. Personally, if I were to have a colored Pocket PC, blue, black, or purple wouldn't stand out enough to appeal to me. I also used this picture to get people's attention. If it were blue/purple (as Sony also offers) it wouldn't seem all that shocking. When you've seen the orange Sony, you've seen the orange Sony. There's no doubt about that! 8)

I voted YES also.
Their are some color choices on the Palm OS PDA's for example:
The NEW NZ90 by Sony is black
Sony is showing selling "Liquid Black" version of their SJ30
Finally their is a really cool looking blue Sony T series
I work at a store and we sell the Palm Zire’s, and the number one complaint is about the ugly white color. Everyone asks, "Are their any face plates for this thing." It usually the only reason people considering getting the Zire, decide not to go with it.

Sorry, but that is just too loud of a colour for me. Dark colours are better.. Go figure!

Personally, I think the EM500 died because it only offered an MMC slot. I guess that was a gamble that Casio didn't win. Other than that, it seemed like a great device...I probably would have bought one, but ended up with an e125 because of the CF slot.
