So I've had my e740 for a couple of weeks now, and I love it. I've installed and uninstalled multiple programs, and am having fun finding new things everyday to put on it.

I just wanted to know what you guys think are the "must haves" for the pocket pc (specifically the e740).

Thanks!

Here are some programs that I have on my PPC and consider "Must Haves". Converter CE (http://www.pocketpccity.com/software/pocketpc/ConverterCE-2000-12-21-ce-pocketpc.html) is a free converter app, very handy in school. Second I have Pocket Nav (http://www.scottandmichelle.net/scott/cestuff.html) another freeware app that lets you switch programs that are running and close apps. I also use TaskbarDate (http://www.pocketpccity.com/software/pocketpc/TaskbarDate-2002-11-1-ce-pocketpc.html). It will put the current date under the clock.

I've put in a registry hack that puts the date on the taskbar whitout a 3'd party app. Using PHM Registry Editor (http://www.phm.lu/PocketPC/RegTweaks/).

EasySMS (http://www.siedler-net.de/WinCE/easySMS/) is also a must. Completely free :-)

I also like to use SIManager (http://www.pocketpresence.com/download.asp) (also freeware).

Harald-Renč (http://www.hfrmobile.com/) also have som great free apps. I use his Switch instead of PocketNav.

Well I don't have an e740 but here are a couple of my must-have apps:

nSuspend (http://www.excite.co.jp/world/url/?wb_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nakka.com%2Fsoft%2Fptools%2F&wb_lp=JAEN&w): Shuts your ppc down @ a pre-programmed time. (great for listening to MP3 while falling asleep) I've heard that it can be tricky to uninstall but I wouldn't know since its never left since I installed it! :)
tdlaunch (http://www.excite.co.jp/world/url/?wb_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nakka.com%2Fsoft%2Fptools%2F&wb_lp=JAEN&w): Have your own custom shortcuts on the today screen.
Pocket Notepad (http://tillanosoft.com/ce/pnotepad.html): PNotepad is just like its big brother on the desktop. Much faster and lighter than PWord.
PocketMVP (http://home.adelphia.net/~mdukette/): Formerly Known as PocketDivX, plays: divx, mpeg, mp3, ogg.
uBook (http://www.gowerpoint.com/uBook_down_nf.html): Text reader, allows you to read simple text files as if they were ebooks, also supports some ebook formats. (unencrypted ones)
PHM Registry Tools (http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/): A registry-editor for PPC.
WISbar (http://www.walkers.ne.jp/): trying it (or one of its relatives) is adopting it. Its a start bar 'enhancer'.
WinamPAQ (http://www.projecteam.org/phpwiki/index.php/WinamPAQ%20-%20PDS): MP3 and OGG player.
Pocket Explorer (http://www.citadeldevelopment.com/): Explorer replacement for the one that come with PPC2002.
PocketSCUMM (http://arisme.free.fr/PocketScumm/index.html): Allows you to run almost all of your old Lucasarts adventure games on the PPC!

Battery Bar 2002 is quite good as well.

I also like IA Album, IA Zip, and IA Presenter... you can search for all of these on Handango or your other favorite software site.

I just got my e740 PPC and have been looking around at software the last two days or so. Here is what I have on my PDA currently, many of them demos, so I'm not sure if I will continue to use them all or not, but in any event, this is a good thread, and here is my contribution: :)

Battery Pack 2003: Shows battery and memory information on the today screen
Microsoft Money: Syncs with the desktop program. Great!
PocketNav: Adds an icon to the top bar that allows you to switch between open applications as well as close inactive ones.
Cubicle Chaose: "Blocks" game free from pocketpc.com
Monopoly: The classic board game on PPC
Snails: Award winning game, similar to old scorched earth
Slurp: Puzzle game
Lextionary: Dictionary and thesaurs
Pocket Notepad: Like windows notepad
Olive Tree Bible Reader: Quick verse lookup and find, Bible in your pocket
CE Paint: Like Windows paint
Nice Start: Displays a nice screen when you turn on your PPC asking for a password to secure it, shows date and owner information as well as available memor
:)
