Socket WIFI?

Has anyone tried the Socket "Low Power" WiFi card. Can you tell the difference in battery consumption etc?

I am planning on buying one of these, but I want to make sure it is realiable and has a lower power consumption than others, sicne it's double the price of a lot of other cards.

The Socket and the Symbol each share the same chipset. The Socket has newer drivers, while the Symbol latest drivers are still in beta.

They are basically the same card a little different software and different colors the Socket is orange and the Symbol is light blue and the software is a bit different.

The automatic mode on each conserve energy very well, basically it maintains a certain level of signal according to your proximity to the access point the farther away you are the more energy is required to maintain the signal, the closer it is the less is needed. Other WiFi Cards I have used basically just go full throttle, even though some cards are releasing driver updates to implement this as well, but not as well as the Symbol and Socket cards.

and Symbol supply drivers for your laptop as well while Socket doesn't.

Keep an eye on ebay - I got a great deal on a socket, been pleased with the battery life, and haven't had any problems.

I've got the Socket card and it's terrific. Possesses very strong signal and is very easy on the battery.

How about the new SanDisk WiFi card? I was browsing the internet looking for the lowest price on the Socket WiFi and I saw the SanDisk card. It appears to use the same "Low Power" concept. Anyone tried it yet?

I'm not too fond of SanDisk even as a memory maker. Aside from their spotty reliability, their cards tend to be on the lower end in terms of performance and their customer service is known for being poor.

This might be a good card, but there are several proven cards (Socket and Symbol for Low Power WiFi) that have been on the market for several months that I think would be safer choices.
