What do you guys use as a text editor?

I use Wordpad; err, I mean Pocket Word, beacuse it's there in ROM and I don't have the space to really install another text app, although TextMaker looks tempting, but at $50, it's more than I want to spend.

Yeah, though a little cludgy, PWord makes a pretty good text editor... I do seem to remember some PPC notepads on Handango...

I prefer to use PocketNotepad over the 'heavy' PocketWord. It loads much much faster than PWord and is much simpler in use. (I also prefer plain text.) If I really needed tot do a text with some formatting I might use PWord but even then I guess I'd format it when back at my desktop.

This might sound stupid, but I can't figure out how to browse for an already existant file to open using PocketWord.

Is it in your My Documents folder?

Sure, but let's say it's a (text) file with an unusual extension, like .cs.

Another vote for Tillanosoft PocketNotepad (http://tillanosoft.com/ce/pnotepad.html).

You can get PocketTweak (I believe its by Tillansoft) and create a new file association

The only way to have word accept non text extensions is to associate the extension with PWord. There was an app to do that at one point, but hopefully someone will have the link here for I do not.

Your other alternative is to use an App like PocketNotepad (which I highly recommend) and edit the files using that. I pretty much garauntee that you will end up with better formatting for cs files than word.
