That UI gives me goosebumps. This is the classic HP 12c that HP tried to kill a number of times because of its age but public demand kept it alive. It came out in 1981 and still sells well. You can pick one up at Wal-Mart and a number of online sites. Name one electronic device that was made in 1981 and still sells over 20 years later totally unchanged! <a href="http://www.hpmuseum.org/hp12c.htm">More info is available here</a>.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/hansberry/2003/20030126-hp12c.jpg" /><br /><br />Well, now you can have it on your Pocket PC. It has really been available for quite some time, but one of you fell down on the job and didn't send it in. It is only $12.99 at the above affiliate link, which is for ARM based Pocket PCs. You can also buy <a href="http://www.handango.com/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=311&amp;productId=29993">MIPS</a> (Casio EM500/E1x5) and <a href="http://www.handango.com/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=311&amp;productId=38584">SH3</a> (HP Jornada 54x/52x) versions.

Awesome! My 12C's asterisk (Low battery) has been blinking for the last month and I've been putting off buying new batteries. Now this vindicates my decision! Thanks Ed!

And here's the HP15C scientific equivalent...

Now if they'd only write a HP-42S 'emulation' I'd be a very happy man.

I would be an happier man if there was an emulator for the Texas TI85... it doesn't seem to be dificult since the TI-8x emulators run on a dump of a real TI rom, and there's source code available for the executable & rom interpreter (search for virtualTI)

Ooh! The memories come flooding back. That was the only calculator we could keep in the lab. All the rest got nicked (or permanently borrowed). That's not to say the HP didn't disappear sometimes. But it always came back when the culprit realised they couldn't get it to work.

In case anyone's wondering what the real 12c looks like click here (http://www.hpmuseum.org/12c.jpg).

As a long-time RPN and HP fan, these two calculator programs are very interesting to me. While the developers have done a wonderful job in reproducing the look of the originals, a vertical design would probably be more user-friendly.

I have emailed the developers and asked them to consider a layout option -- horizontal like shown, and vertical, where the number keys are moved under the function keys, and the display is slightly compressed. This would maintain the same functionality, but fit the PocketPC's form factor better.

If any of you like this idea, you might want to email your encouragement to the developer. [email protected]

I used to sell 12c's in college, $125 buck a shot, each one was $15 bucks commission, now IT cost's less than the commission.

virtual HP 41CV 1K-4K memory modules anyone?

I am still using my HP48 - fell in love with it in college, its the real engineer's calculator. Since I bought my iPaq, I dont carry both PDA and calculator around, the emulator (albeit now and then problematic) is more than enough for my need.

Isn't emulation something AMAZING?

Thanks to all the authors for the effort!!

(btw, my father has about 5 HP 12C, most of them bought cheap so that when his main one breaks down or get lost, he has a replacement, since they are harder to find new with each passing day. He swears by this calculator, and for long I've seen 12C emulators around - I think there was one before by HP, but I cannot remember if it was for the PPC or the hand held clamshell win ce hp)

I love my 41CV! It's the only calculator I own - twenty years and still going strong!

Apps like this are FANTASTIC. No learning curve for the end user and tried and tested code in the emulation. Just awesome.
