Genio 550 vs 740/"750"
Can someone advise the difference (advantages and not) on Genio series versus e740 or rumored e750?
Thx!

PS. actually I would love to hear any updates on the rumored e750

Differences / unique features:
Genio: HUGE screen. (that's pretty much the only extraordinary thing about it)
e740: Built in wireless networking (802.11b). Good form factor.

Downsides:
Genio: Slightly large. I haven't heard much about this device, though...
e740: Bad battery life with Wifi turned on. Pretty bad screen, I've heard, too.

Both of these have Pocket PC 2002 (meaning word processing, excel, voice recording, MP3, video playback, many more features), dual slots for CF and SD, both have a 400mhz X-Scale processor, 64MB RAM.

Yeah, the 4" screen is nice and the unit really isn't that much larger as a result. The next Toshiba unit should be a cross between the e550G and the e740.

The e550G also has a USB connection in the cradle which provides added functionality if the Pocket PC drivers are available for the peripheral you plug in. You can change the processor speed to take advantage of faster speeds or increased battery life, whichever is most important. There are also options that will contine to provide power to your SD card, CF card and/or PC card while the unit is suspended. The hardware buttons may be disabled so the unit doesn't accidentally power on when you're not intending. To my recollection, the e740 does not have any of the above.

If wireless is important, the e740 works great (especially with the latest EUU3 patch). However, I myself am waiting for the 802.11g wireless CF card. It already exists in PC Card format.

the genio is also probably the thinnest PDA with dual CF and SD card slots with a thickness of around 13mm....

I have to say I'm rather shocked by some of the inconsistancies and errors in this thread. Let me try and clear it up a bit.

The Toshiba e740 is .59" or 15mm thick. The e550 is .63" or 16 mm thick. Both have dual expansion. Either one is quite thin, regardless.

The e550g has USB host support on its cradle. The e740 supports USB hosting through the presentation pack that can be attached to the bottom.

To address the downsides spursdude listed :

As someone who has the e740....the screen is excellent.

The e550g is 3.03"x4.9"x0.63"
The e740 is 3.1"x4.9"x.6"

As you can see, there is no significant difference in size between the two.

Main differences really are that the e550 has a huge screen while the e740 has WiFi. Between the two, I'd take WiFi ;)

BTW, all of these measurements are available at MS's PPC website (http://www.pocketpc.com/)
