They took the permanent PIM out of this ROM update. I'm pretty sure there is no way to get it back unless you can go back to the previous ROM. You would have to have a copy of it somewhere. Sorry.

Permanent PIM is now handled by the iPAQ Backup program (Sprite's Backup)

The update is in German only. Can it be used on the english version Ipaq?

I applied the update to my iPaq 3955; everything went smoothly, but my SD slot is working A LOT more slowly now- movies in Pocket MVP are a bit more jerky, and iPaq backup takes almost a 1/2 hour!?!?!??

I'm thinking about re-applying the rom update, or reverting back to the backup of my old rom. Has anyone else experienced these problems?

Thanks!

batsai, did you do a hard reset after the update?

On the other hand, HP may have pulled it for a reason.

Already installed the ROM update with no problems. Your iPAQ should work a bit faster not slower due to the removal of the Permanent PIM feature, updated drivers, etc. Make sure you follow the update instructions to the letter.

Check out this Forums Hardware section. You may find some answers there. Good luck. :D

The upgrade went like a breeze. However, after completely reinstalling all my software I suddenly experience many lost clusters on my 256Mb SD card. Loads of reoccurring data corruption ...

I am starting to have a funny feeling about this upgrade. Why would HP pull the english version back again? Something's fishy with it ...

Yes Janak, I did do a hard reset, but I definitely think there's something fishy about the new SD drivers, especially since HP has pulled the update. When I emailed HP tech support, they told me it would be available again in a couple of weeks.

ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/sp...500/SP23479.exe

It says it is for the 3900 series, not model specific. It is also dated 1.24.03, so your guess is as good as mine. Since I don't know if it will work properly or not, use it at your own risk. I downloaded it, but there is absolutely nothing on HP's page thay says it is the final. It also requires a complete rebuild again, which I just did last week, so I'll wait for another brave soul to do it and report back. :?:

The update can now be found on HP's site in English, German, and French. 13.5MB download. It will erase everything on your iPAQ and backups will not restore properly, or work properly after a restore. You will need to sync all your Outlook data before the upgrade then resync it again after, and all additional software will need to be reinstalled.

READ THE README, PLEASE!

HERE (http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/handheldiPAQ/us/download/17001.html) is the link for the 3950/55 update.

I've looked at the previous file (SP22963) and the new one (SP23479). They're the same, except for a file with HTC comments :-( I think the English ROM was removed just to strip this file.

Anyway, contacted HP asking what's the difference, and got this reply:

"This is with reference to your e-mail regarding the ROM update on the H3900 series.

Unfortunately, we do not have details regarding the differences
between the Softpaq SP22945 and SP23477. We do not get this information since it is HP confidential.

However, it is necessary to update the iPAQ again. So we request
that you update the iPAQ again from the following link:

<http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/handheldiPAQ/us/download/17002.html>

We are sorry that we could not assist you with the differences in the Softpaq.

Please e-mail us if you need any clarification and we will be glad to help.

Thank you,

HP eServices"

Hmmmm... I'm not sure I'm going through the update again... Anyone think of a good reason?

The files are the same, including date and time!

Yes SDcard became faulty, and I had to reformat the SDcard to get it to work. It's ashamed. I have reverted back to my old ROM and it worked flawlessly. I think this is the worst ROM update that I have ever encountered since My IPAQ 3660
