Is there any way at all to read the sony Memory sticks directly from a compact flash or secure digital slot? ie and adapter?

Yes, the Pretec CompactTrio adapter will read SD, MMC and Memory Sticks. It is a Type II CF card format. You won't find a way to use an SD slot. The memory stick alone won't fit in the slot, physically.
