View Full Version : Deleting Your Own Posts

A quick note to let you know that you should now have the ability to delete your own posts in the front-page forums. I think I finally got it working properly, so feel free to give it a test by responding to this thread, then deleting your post. If you run into any problems, please post a message in this thread...but don't delete it.<br /><br /><b>UPDATE:</b> It would appear that a post cannot be deleted once someone else has responded to it. At that point, you can only edit your post. That limitation makes sense given the threaded nature of discussion boards - you wouldn't want people jumping into a discussion, making inflammatory statements, then deleting their own post and vanishing without a trace... :ninja:

Jason, can you please make it so we can delete anyone's posts.
Thanks.

so can we still delete it even if there has already been a response?

It looks like we can't delete if there is another post. My post above yours does not have the little delete button anymore.

Aw nuts. Ok, in that case I guess all you can do is edit it. I suppose that makes sense in a threaded messaging system...

Didn't we have this functionality before? I distinctly remember seeing it shortly after the site switched (err, was coerced ;)) to phpBB.

Yes, it makes sense. In fact, it made sense back in the "Help me solve this mystery..." thread (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2205). :-) I figured out the deletion rules there and another user confirmed them by looking at the source code.

Was deletion completely broken in threads started from home page posts? I noticed one time that I didn't see a delete button, but I don't remember if the thread was on the home page.

Maybe Jason's following the slashdot rule of posting...

To do that, he'd have to misspell a lot more. Sigh... I wish the /. editors would put a spell checker into Slashcode. :?

I thought perhaps this time it would be different - on several of the front page forums I had delete set to ADMIN, not REG (registered users).

I think I finally understand this once and for all.
