Ok, folks this is my first post on this board so thanks in advance for any responses. I purchased my Axim a few weeks ago and am very pleased so far. I want to buy a memory card but am looking for more information on the following topics:

(1) SD or CF?? I'm leaning toward getting an SD card because that would leave my CF slot free for other expansion options. But I am interested to hear any thoughts on the subject and any recommendations of cards that are compatible with the Axim.

(2) SDMI - For those who do not know, that stands for Secure Digital Music Initiative. It is the record companies' response to try to cut down on music piracy on the internet. I've noticed that some memory cards are advertised as "SDMI-compliant." What does this mean? I want to use the memory card to store MP3's but I don't want to encounter problems where I can't play certain files because of my memory card or perhaps the settings on Windows Media Player. If anyone has encountered this situation before, let me know what's up!!

I personally would rather get an SD card for the same reasons as you, specially since the Axim's SD slot is not SDIO and so you won't sacrifice anything if you buy SDs.

Card type is a matter of personal preference but I do prefer SD cards. They are smaller and work just the same. All the different speeds (12x, 24x, etc.) for the CF cards is mainly for picture taking with digital cameras. And also transferring pictures from the camera itself with the card in it or from a card reader using a USB or FireWire connection.

As for the Secure Digital Music Initiative, well, that's all it is at present. Nothing more than a standard in most cases, put in place for possible future use. Anything (MP3, WMA, AAC, etc.) recorded or copied to an SD card can be listened to and copied to anoter card for listening and sharing. That ability will remain in place because if it doesn't it will affect everything recordable and kill the music and film industry and they don't want that. So I'd say we are pretty safe. Also SDMI and its copy protection is usually found in some music ripping software so choose carefully.

I'd opt for the SD card for memory only due to the CF periphrials. However, if you know you want a WiFi CF card, there was a new combo product that I saw on this site a few weeks back. It was a CF wireless card but was also a storage card. I did some quick searches but didn't find it. If someone else remembers the product and can post it, I would appreicate it.

If you're not sure what accessories you might need, I'd definitely opt for the SD storage....

If money is an issue, you may want to go for CF. Currently, CF cards are quite a bit cheaper than SD cards, although I expect the price of SD cards to drop with larger capacities coming out.
