Why does Compaq says this?
Microsoft Corporation will no longer include Microsoft Outlook 2002 with the purchase of any new Pocket PC device.
To ensure you have the best device-to-desktop PIM/Email combination on the market today, Microsoft will offer Microsoft Outlook 2000 SR-1, as a part of the Pocket PC solution.

Is Outlook 2000 better than Outlook 2002 with the SP-2?

This was brought up back in November in the Notice from Compaq/HP (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5073) thread. I also think it was a home page posting at one time, but I couldn't find that one.
Also note that it's not really an HP/Compaq decision, but a Microsoft one. I think it has to do with not having to activate the product.

Oh.. i'm sorry, please fell free to delete this post.
SORRY AGAIN
BTW, Thanks for the thoughts about why MS is doing this.

BTW, I've heard a different reason: MS's Office Team didn't want to see such valuable product going out of the door bundled with a (relatively cheap) Pocket PC license.
In any case, this has been true for some time. The latest iPaqs I've seen (1910s) come with Outlook 2000.

As i see, microsoft want us to buy something...
At least they want us to pay for the Outlook 2002
PS: I know that HP should pay MS a licence of the PPC, but I'm sure that MS want's more than that: I don't blame them, if i where Bill, I do the same thing

It's not just iPAQs - I believe the Axim also did. But I already had 2002 on my Office XP CD, so I just installed that instead.

Yeah, i'm sure about that. As Pony99CA says, it's a Microsoft new rule :(
