I am considering my first Pocket PC or Palm. I use Lotus Notes at work for e-mail, calendar, and contact book. Can any of the currently available units synch with L. Notes? I've received differing answers to this question. Do I need special software to make this happen?

Thank you for your help on this.

Do a google for Cadenza. I have heard that is the primo sync tool for Notes and Pocket PC.

Don't even bother looking for anything other than Cadenza.

Thanks to both for the tip. I was hoping that it would not require added purchased software, but I guess that's the real world. I'm on the fence about whether I'd get enough use out of a pocket pc -- just another factor I'll have to weigh.

The big factor here is that Lotus Notes is huge in the corporate world (I can't name a single person who just uses it for personal purposes). For that reason, the software is aimed at corporate users which translates to $$. I tried out Cadenza once and it was great, but I couldn't justify the price so I didn't buy it.

Marraf, just out of curiosity, what options are you weighing with regards to a PDA? Is it a matter of getting one or not getting one or is it a decision between Palm and PocketPC?

Microsoft just released a connector to Domino for Outllook i've been using that, i don't think it's the speediest but it's free and gets the job done. However it won't connect to your notes address books. You can get it here http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/xp/journ/Outxpcon.htm.

I fixed his link - the "." at the end was being included in the URL which caused it to give a 404. It works now. :) Wrapped it in the [URL ] tag.

Ekkie,

It's between a pocket pc or nothing. My main use would be for what I mentioned before -- calendar, etc. Not a big gamer, but I am intrigued by the ability to listen to music. Just don't know if I'd get enough use to justify getting one.

Thanks.

Sounds like the 300MHz Dell is just what you want. $249, then $50 off rebate, so $199 plus tax and shipping. 32MB device, SD and CF slot, no cradle but you get a charging and sync cable. Awesome transflective 16bit screen. Puh-lenty of room for PIM info on the device. Splurge and get a $50 128MB CF card and you have room for 4 hours of music assuming 64bitrate. Add the cost of Cadenza and you are around $300.

Not bad for a PDA, MP3 player, ebook reader, email, etc. :D

You can do all of this with a much smaller iPAQ h1910, but the entry price is $299, not $199.

Also, the iPaq's battery life will be significantly lower than that of the Axim.

Thanks Ed. I should have caught that myself.

I see what this is now, this is a "back-end" connector to load LN data from a Domino server into your PC Outlook. This would be a lot of overhead if anyone still needs to use LN directly with their mail, but you can't complain about "free"!!

Not sure how different this is from their previous sync solution based on the XTendConnect (sp?) solution which was rather inferior to Cadenza. There's no mention of price anywhere... I'll have to look into that sometime...
