I was looking through the games for PDA's and noticed that they are about as impresseive as the late great Sega Genesis games (excluding age of empires) of the late 80's and early 90's. Is this the best of the games on the market for the Pocket PC? ??! With all this technology can they not come up with something better than tic tac toe or chess?? How about a ported playstation one game, or some good old computer games like warcraft

Take a look around, man...

Strategic Assault, very similar to Command and Conquer.
Rayman Ultimate (a PS1 game, yeah)
Age of Empires (like warcraft)
Argentum (somewhat like Starcraft)
Snails (similar to Worms Armageddon, but with snails)
Super Bomberman is great

And of course you can get all sorts of emulators to play Game Gear, Genesis, Game Boy, NES, SNES, and more...

(I also nominate moving this to the software board)

Moved.

In any case, I concur with these guys. Have you checked out http://www.ziosoft.com/? These guys are porting geniuses. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for. :)

Something tells me you just didn't look very hard. Even so, yes the best games are pretty much at the age of Genesis. I mean, it's a handheld. What exactly would you prefer? Most games are going to be 2d, and the limited 3d apps won't often be PS1 quality. We don't have Geforce CE chips just yet and we don't have 600 some megs to store video and music. Even so, we have an awful heck of a lot better games than tic tac toe and chess. ¬_¬

I got lots of cool games for my Ipaq....

I tried yesterday "Doom" wich is cool enough for a handheld pc.

Going to try that "Quake 2" ported game, both are free so that is cool.

I also have Sim City 2000, Monopoly and Mahjongg wich I became very addicted to!!! :D

If you look then you will find.

Ofcourse I would love to see games like "Transport tycoon" and stuff like that to my dear Ipaq

I don't suppose anyone has ever ported Civilization II to the PPC?

(Hey, I can hope, can't I?)

Ohyea... would looooove Civ 2 on my Ipaq.... :D but thinks it is impossible with current technology.
Many old Amiga games I would love to have also, I wonder how difficult it is to port amiga games to ppc 2002 ?

Hey Articblue,
I was an Amiga diehard for years! What a great machine. I really felt like I gave in when I got my first Intel machine. I think I had about every game ever made for the Amiga! Don't hear much about it anymore. I still hate Commodore for not marketing it better.

Well I would love to see Populous on the Pocket PC. I know it wasn't the best game of it's type but I have fond memories of it onmy Amiga.

Populous is still my all-time favorite game. I got The Sims last year, so I play that now (alot!), but I still have Populous loaded on my machine, and I've been through all 1,000 worlds more times than I can count. I used to play that game so much, I even had dreams about it. Also used to play Air Warrior all the time, both on the Amiga and the PC. That is my favorite online game, haven't found anything to match it.
Most of my gaming was BK (before kids), and I sure don't have the time like I used to.
I've been pretty disappointed with the games for the PPC, but that is probably just me. They are out there, I've tried alot of them. I haven't registered any of them, and as soon as the demo expires, they are gone. I did buy Scrabble and Monopoly, but I haven't used them much.

Please enlighten me! Why would porting Civ 2 to PPC be more difficult than say Age of Empires?

I posted that just because the original post I was referring to used the word "impossible". :agrue:

Populous fans
Try CastCe, the Atari ST emulator, it runs Populous on my PPC, although the control are a little ackward to get use to, it runs! :)

Tempting but I'm not a huge fan of emulators, mainly because games tend to work better when designed for the interface of the Pocket PC. I know we have D-Pads and buttons but these don't always work so well for games either.
I still think Populous should be officially ported to the Pocket PC. Stand up developers and be counted, I command you.

ps Please?

I am still a Amigafreak, still got my 2 A1200 that I would never sell in a million years :D
But I would love some of the games ported over to Ipaq, I don't know how difficult it could be as I can't do stuff like that myself, but if I could I would definitly been porting games from Amiga over.

Most people here sitll doesn't know about "Fade" this game is really awesome, a new blend of adventure games, not a monkey clone nor a myst clone
it highly interactive and the story is awesome so far (I'm stuck at the island of the dead right now)

Starcraft/Warcraft without a mouse/keyboard? I don't know how well that would work....not sure if the touchscreen would be enough...

Indeed, it's easy to sit here and say it should be possible, but you need to really think about it. I mean come on, there were tons of commands mapped to keyboard keys. Do you really think you can controll 9 groups of minions without keyboard shortcuts to the groups and to locations on the map? Do you really think a pocket pc could process that many units plus all the building and gathering? Personally I just don't see the joy in a Starcraft or Warcraft port.
