I just switched from palm... I tried a number of searches in the forums and I can't find an answer. It's not appearing in the memory control panel or the explorer... do I need a 3rd party utility? Thanks.

In Explorer, you can select the storage card from the drop down box at the top left of the screen.
Under My Device there should be an entry called Storage Card

No such luck... I don't see it listed. I do see the 'My Flash Disk' but that's the 6 meg internal flash memory. Could I have a bad SD card? Does it need to be formated before use in the pocketpc? If so, how do you do that?

Start File Explorer and look for a folder named Storage Card, or something similar to that.

I have thoroughly looked through the file explorer and it just doesn't appear to be listed. It's a 256 Meg Sandisk card I just received from ecost. Has anyone else experienced bad SD cards?
I don't have access to another pocketpc/sd card so I don't know which one is failing. I will try to go out to a store tonight to try it in a demo unit...
It should be as simple as inserting the card and then seeing it listed in the file explorer? I hope it's the card and not the v35.

I'm assuming you don't have a card reader for your PC??

I'm new to SD cards, I normally use CF cards however I have just picked up one for myself for the Axim however do not see any issues with it.
I would certainly suggest trying the card in a card reader or another device if possible.
Have you tried a soft reset once the card is installed??

when you say "Have you tried a soft reset once the card is installed??" 'installed' makes it sound like I need to do more than just insert the card into the slot. I did a soft reset after inserting the card but do I need to do something else to 'install' it? Thanks.

No, I just meant when the card is in place. I don't have a V35 handy to test if there is any little quirks of that device but I would defintely try the card out on another device first. They are usually pretty reliable so it may be something simple that we have missed but you never know for sure.

You don't have to install or do anything normally. I think you have a broken card or broken PPC

Just a quick follow up... looks like sd the slot is bad on my v35. The sd card worked beautifully in another pocketpc. Back to the store it goes. I hope this isn't a production build quality issue with viewsonic.
btw, I got an immediate & helpful response from sandisk and I have yet to receive a response from viewsonic. This doesn't help to instill a great deal of confidence in viewsonic. Maybe the 1910 was the better option, especially given the 300MHz speed bump and possibility of SDIO.
Thanks for all your help.

Actually, my 256 SD card worked fine in my Axim but it did give me a few problems in my Ipaq 3835. Sometimes it would recognize it and sometimes it wouldn't. Do you have all the updates for your PPC? I think that fixed the problem on my Ipaq.
