Hey,
With the overclocking discussion going on I was wondering if the 300mhz Axim will perform as good as the 400mhz one if overclocked. If so I would be a lot quicker to buy the 300mhz one. :-)

From what I can gather, the Sxim 300mhz uses the cpu that is locked at 300mhz maximum, not a 400mhz cpu that has been locked lower at 300mhz so I assume this isn't possible.
Doesn't mean to say that is the case though.

Intel currently makes 2 models of Xscale for PDAs (although they have 2 more models not yet used, that use stacked strataflash). Anyway, these 2 models are the PXA210 and PXA250. The last speculation I saw was that the chip in the HP 1910 was a 100-300Mhz chip that was clocked at 200Mhz and 300Mhz was the top end, the CPU had been underclocked for power consumption. So you aren't really over clocking it, but simply bringing it to its max, like we can already do with the Axim 400Mhz under Start>Settings>System>Power>Processor.
Here's the catch though, according to Intel, they make 2 CPUs 1 is the PXA210 that is supposed to be 100-200Mhz low power and the PXA250 which is supposed to be 200-400Mhz high performance. So if the HP 1910 and ViewSonic V35 actually have a PXA250 chip they should be able to go to 400Mhz not simply 300Mhz and if they indeed do have a PXA210 they shouldn't be able to go to 300Mhz so easily. 8O Intel always leaves lots of safety margin in their chips for overclocking though so if someone comes up with a way to overclock the 400Mhz I wouldn't be too scared to try it.
What I'd really like to know is which chip is actually in the HP 1910(PXA250 according to specs.), ViewSonic V35(PXA250 according to specs.), and Axim 300Mhz.
Ok, so according to specs. both the HP 1910 and ViewSonic V35 both have the PXA250 so they Should be capable of 400Mhz!

Can anyone confirm this? I wonder if there are actually 2 flavours of the PXA250 chip then i.e. 100 - 300 and 200 - 400 mhz.

Not according to Intels website:

Hmmm, so the HP 1910 should be capable of 400mhz....
And the Axim Basic should also be capable of 400mhz....
I'm sure we can expect to see a couple of utilities appearing unless there are other hardware limitations to stop this from being the case!
Good detective work mate.
