Just a little update:

I tried out MiniStumbler last night and it did NOT find the card in my Toshi740.

What card are you using? It is my understanding that MiniStumbers only works with Ornico cards.

Has anyone tried this with the iPaq 5400 series?

On the stumbler page you have some info as to which cards are supported. The important part of the site is the one which describes which Wi Fi cards stumbler will work with, they have to use the Hermes chipset. I tried it on the 3850 with both the Compaq and the ORiNOCO cards they are flawless, but it will not work with my Cisco card which is self explanatory. Both Orinoco and Compaq will also take attachments in the form of various antennae. Pig tail for amateurs a can of Pringles for some serious fun, or a directional antenna if you meant business and plan on grabbing signal 2-3 miles out. Just be careful how much fun you have, it's not legal everywhere. There is a number of good sites that talk about war walking, driving and flying here is one that’s home grown www.renderlab.net.

MiniStumbler does not work on the Toshiba e740 because it uses a different WiFi chipset.

However, don't despair. Both PocketWarrior (http://www.dataworm.net/pocketwarrior/) and WinCE (http://www.cirond.com/site/products/wifispotter/download_software) work perfectly.

And, from what I understand, MiniStumbler is in development for the e740 but a compatible version has not yet been released. Stay tuned.
