View Full Version : EUU3 installation failed :-(

HP have just replaced my iPAQ (a 3660) because the battery life was down to 20 minutes. Despite telling them that I'd upgraded it to Pocket PC 2002, they shipped me one with 2000 on it.

So, I decided to go through an update everything.

First off was the OS - install Pocket PC 2002 & that includes an update to the ROM.

Second was SP22898 to upgrade the ROM again to 2.20.

Third was EUU3 - SP22546. I followed the instructions carefully, copying the CAB file to the iPAQ, disconnecting the USB cable (so that ActiveSync stopped) and then running the CAB file.

The CAB file got unpacked and it then reported an error with one of the XIP files - I think it was the 24MCONSUMER file - Media Player is still 8.0 and there isn't a Bliss theme.

I've tried running EUU3 again but it won't do *anything* now :-(

So:

1. Was this error to be expected? The system ROM is only 16MB, so that would suggest that the file is only suitable for newer iPAQs.

2. Have I installed things in the right order or the wrong order?

3. Is there anything I need to do to "correct" this issue?

Thanks.

I should have looked at the web site more carefully ...

For the H3600 series, the 24MCONSUMER.XIP does not apply due to Windows Media Player for Pocket PC not being in ROM. When the update is executed, a message appears displaying:

“\temp\rom_update\24mconsumer.xip is invalid. It will be deleted. Other updates will continue”

Now to figure out why HP/Compaq say that the 2.20 ROM Update includes the Bluetooth Service Manager 1.1, and yet the icon doesn't appear when I put the iPAQ into the BT sleeve ...

Is the BT Service Mgr supposed to work with the BT sleeve? I had thought it was only valid for the units with built-in BT (3870 / 3970).

Well, all I do know for a fact is that:

a) the 2.20 ROM update was specifically for the 3600 series of iPAQs and

b) the web site says it includes the 3600/3700 driver updates, EUU 1.00 and H3XXX Bluetooth Service Manager 1.1.

Bizarre.

OK... I'm not sure if my advice here will work for you or not. Upon re-revewing HPs service downloads, I do recall installing the 2.20 upgrade (which is NOT the EUU3 update) and not getting my BT mgr updated correctly. My problem was slightly different because I could still see my BT mgr, but it was still the same old version. So what I did then was install the standalone BT Service Mgr upgrade:

BT Service Manager Download (http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/handheldiPAQ/us/download/14376.html)

That fixed the problem for me. Give that a try if you haven't already.
