I'm currently trying to install Windows XP Professional from CD.

I put in the CD, and I click "start installation", or whatever its called. I select "upgrade", and enter my product key. Everything is checked, hardware, and then it begins my installation.

My computer is restarted and installation begins, but suddenly I get an error "Cannot copy "kernel32.dll" to the Windows Installation Folder". Another file "ocx..dll" or something couldnt be copied either.

Im guessing theres a problem with the CD. Any suggestions?
Does anyone reccomend I install it on a PII 333mhz, 256ram, 8gb HD, running 98SE? I got kinda worried myself too, so im not sure even if my computer will even bootup.

Thanks

I'd give MS a call. I'm sure there is some support # somewhere that can help. Sounds suspiciously like a bad CD. I have installed XP on a Pentium MMX, 200Mhz laptop with 128M Ram, so your machine should be fine. (Ran fine BTW) I did install from a clean hard drive though.

If you can do a clean install rather than upgrade, it's always more stable. Helps clear out the clutter too.

Obviously make sure you backup your data. I think even an upgrade CD will allow you to do a clean install if you've got your old OS CD around. (But check first!)
