Looks interesting - the d-pad is on the left, and the recording button is on the front. Nice for gaming!<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/legend-ppc.jpg" /> <br /><br />There was a <a href="http://www.geek.com/news/geeknews/2003Jan/bpd20030108018053.htm">brief article on Geek.com</a> that had this to say:<br /><br />"Popular Chinese manufacturer Legend seems to be preparing another Pocket PC for release. This is still under the wire, but we got an e-mail from Mike Cane, a well-known PDA enthusiast, who received an e-mail from a Chinese-speaking reader about this site. Pass it through Babel Fish for a rough English translation and here are the specs: 400MHz CPU, 32 MB Flash, 64 MB RAM, 1500 mAh battery, carefully crafted metal casing, auto-adjusting illumination, rocker wheel, 8-way directional pad, three quick-buttons, CF Type I slot, and what appears to be an IrDA port. CF Type I is sort of disappointing, and I'm surprised not to see integrated wireless, but these may not be complete or final specs."<br /><br />What interests me most, however, is the fifth photo in this forum thread. Look at the UI of that picture viewer - look familiar? Hmm...

Curious... With the 2003 OS supposedly around the corner, this could be the new image viewer along with file viewer (see next picture in thread) that takes the look and feel from XP?

I don't know about this thing being so good for gaming... That D-pad looks like it's five distinct and separate buttons, rather than a single piece that gives you directional gaming control. Might not be so good for shooting and platform games.
Either way, a western release may not be likely, so I'll happily wait until somebody else recognizes the wisdom in this design. Hopefully, with a nice fast MIPS chip.

Hmm....I think we're seeing elements of the new PPC UI at work here. I like what I see so far.

Note that many of the screenshots were of the game console emulator. Pehaps the button layout was an intentional design.
Hopefully, with a nice fast MIPS chip.
To guarantee that there is no chance of it working with the new OS or with most current games?

The UI looks good - the translation of that page says that it's PocketPC 2002 SP4, which apparently includes the new picture viewer...
Hopefully Microsoft will release EUU4 for us soon... :D
Can I get EUU3 first?

I carry a Legend everyday and it is tough as rocks.
I would prefer manufacturers add .05 inches to a mini (like ViewSonic or h1910) and include a CF1 than include the smaller format, especially if it is not SD.
But, then again, I probably wouldn't want something with only one slot at all.
Can anyone see how big this Legend is? It looks like a cross between a miniature Casio 125 (Dpad) and a Toshiba e310 (metal case)'
The more the merrier.

Look at the NES emulator. The emulator IS BUILT IN TO THE ROM, and has the XP interface to it too. So I think this is the device's doing, not the new OS. Do a search for the name, there are matches- all associated with the device, all in Chinese.

Yup, I used the iPAQ version with my E570.

The UI doesn't look any different, except for the included picture viewer which has an XP style titlebar and close button. I'm assuming this is something we will see in the next version of PPC. I hope so anyway.

Not to start a fight or anything, but I wasn't specifically asking for a new Pocket PC with a MIPS chip... I happen to be a fan of the BE-300, and I'm hoping that other manufacturers continue to create portable devices with Windows CE embedded independently of the Pocket PC standards. From an application standpoint, all the programs I want to run (and keep running) are compiled for MIPS, and I've got a significant investment in that platform already. I'm not interested in converting anybody or influencing anyone's purchasing decisions, just looking out for my own interests. No problem with expression of my preference, right?
Hope that covers all the bases.

You certainly have a point, but I think JonnoB's point was that those of us in the Pocket PC camp (since this is a Pocket PC Web site) have had to accept for quite a while now that it's ARM or nothing. Since you didn't specify you were talking about the BE-300, he mistook you for one of those Pocket PC owners who refuse to upgrade from their Casio E-125. ;-) The MIPS chip was a good design, but ultimately it was too resource-intensive for Microsoft to code and test an OS on three different CPU architectures. ARM is the future of the Pocket PC, period. :)

I like how they set the buttons up. This would be perfect for game emulation.

I didn't even notice that! I haven't had a PPC for some time, and I just figured that was some picture viewer that I'm unfamiliar with that had stormed the market.
Nice!

About the EUU3 thing: Yes, the Ipaq one will work on Toshiba
Now lets get back to the topic. Check out the 13th picture. The start button is on the bottom instead of on the top (perhaps you can modify this in the speculated EUU4!!!!)
I really like the XP look as well, especially that picture viewer is something I've been waiting for. Lets hope that EUU4 will be released!
And, he, look, they thought about us Dutchman too. They have a picture of a windmill  :D

No, that was how the original Pocket PC (pre-2000 version) looked. The application is just using the old UI style.
