Hello All,

I'm in the market for an iPAQ 3970, and none of my local stores carry it. Locals include (CompUSA, BestBuy, Walmart, FredMeyers, and a few smaller computer stores). 'Where am I', you ask, I'm in Anchorage, Alaska. Now before you get the idea that we are out of the mainstream or something, the big guys up here do carry a wide variety (20-30 models), just not the one I want. They all have the 3950, and the latest 5450's and Toshiba's and many more, but no 3970.
So, it looks like I may end up buying it online. Which isn't a real problem, I just don't know of any good places to buy from. I've looked at al lot of the sites with places ranked or scored, which is a start., but how much can I trust those scores?

Where online or off have many of you bought your 3900's or other PDA's?

Thanks.

BrygGuy :)

Hey,

You got several options:

1. The easiest and the safest is to order directly from HP, by going to hpshopping.com. They are selling the H3975 model, which for all intense and purposes, is absolutely the same as the H3970 model. Now, the current price of H3975 at HPshopping.com is $749 or $674 after applying the 10% (SV1578) coupon. You will also get free shipping and a free case. But it may not be worth buying it from there considering the price (more on that below). However, the newer model, the H5455 , can be had for $629 after applying that discount. For me, it's a no brainer, I would pick the H5455 hands down. But you should read up and decide which PocketPC you want. You have to weigh factors like better battery life and faster performance of the H3970 versus the advantage of integrated 802.11b and removable battery of the H5455 (in addition to many other advantages).

2. Check out pricegrabber.com for the cheapest price on the H3970. It is very important that you read the return policy, in case you will have a problem (ie. stay away from places like ecost, pcmall, and others that either make it extremely difficult to return a product or simply do not allow it). Here is a direct link to pricegrabber.com:

http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php?masterid=600492&ut=44a13dc49305b55c&found=2&search=H3970

Places like buy.com, gateway.com, and CDW.com all have good prices.

I purchased my H5455 from Hpshopping.com. With the discount applied, I got the lowest price on the internet (or anywhere else for that matter)and they shipped my unit within hours.

Hope this helps.

Good luck.

I'm new to the PPC game and am also in the market for either a 39xx or maybe the 5455. I noticed samsclub has the 5455 online for $595. I thought this was a great price but haven't seen anyone else post about buying from them. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

John
