Add Programs problem. Help!!

Hi guys,
Grateful for any help with xda (aka T-mobile pocket pc pe), and "Add/Remove Programs", which has suddenly stpped working.

If I try to install a new program from the PC, I get an error message over Active Sync "Cannot retrieve details from device. Please reconnect". Reconnect does nothing.

PC can see xda. Active sync updates ok. Can explore xda from PC, can delete files & directories, backup/restore, but not Add/Remove.

Have tried deleting all installed apps(!), soft reset, hard reset, still same error message.

Any bright ideas?? Please!! :(

Grrr...
Removed & reinstalled active sync.
Hard reset xda
Formatted card.

=> Worked ok for short while, but now reverted to original problem, ie 'Add/Remove programs' option produces 'Cannot retrieve data from device' error message in ActiveSync on the PC. All other ActiveSync functions work ok.

Following conversations with O2 xda Tech Support, I'm wondering if I need to worry about this? I can remove apps on xda itself, either from 'Remove Progs', or by deletion of files & folders. Installing either by copying .cab files or apps' own installer.

HOWEVER (!), I've still got 2 queries. I don't like computer things not working when they should - do I have a hardware fault developing?
AND, will not using the ActiveSync add/remove function lead to registry on xda getting messed as I merrily delete files & folders?

Any further thoughts/advice gratefully received
