I've heard nothing but great things from people who have bought the book, so if you're looking to get into Pocket PC development, this book belongs right next to your keyboard.<br /><br /><img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/0201750791.01._PE_PIdp-schmoo2,TopRight,7,-26_SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg" /><br /><br />"Developments in mobile technology and the wireless internet are converging to offer new opportunities for improving business processes and creating important new products and services. Pocket PC Development in the Enterprise is the first book to explain how to exploit these trends by developing mobile enterprise solutions based on Microsoft's increasingly popular Pocket PC platform. The authors discuss the business implications of the mobility boom before going on to provide the method, the code, and the tools for the reader to develop their own mobile solutions. To aid understanding, the book uses the story of a fictitious company, ACME Copier Inc, illustrating how their field service operation improves customer satisfaction and productivity via Pocket PC applications. The client- and server-side components that make it all work are included with the book, enabling the reader to reuse vital elements of the solution.Pocket PC Development in the Enterprise includes these invaluable features to help new developers hit the ground running: An overview of the business impact of mobile solutions; A tried and tested Pocket PC application development method; An effective mobile system architecture design blueprint; A set of practical, real-world illustrations; A wealth of sample code walkthroughs; A CD featuring all the code plus a host of essential Pocket PC developer tools."<br /><br />You can purchase the book from <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0201750791/jasondunn-20">Amazon.com</a>, <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0201750791/jasondunn-20">Amazon.co.uk</a>, or likely most local computer book stores. 8O Holy smokes! This thing looks amazing - I didn't know such an animal existed. From the quick skim I did on amazon, it seems this thing will take you from design to development of ppc applications - this could be just the primer i need to shake off my 11 year old dusty programming skills - the big question I have (and i love having potential access to the author via this site) is: is the book now (or nearly) obsolete due to the .net framework? :?:

Yes, this book covers a lot of ground. We're walking through the steps of identifying business scenarios to mobilize, system architecture, and coding. We spent more timing coding the samples than writing the book, actually.

From a pure code point of view, this book is partially going obsolete. We do cover some .NET aspects but most of what we know today were only guesses back when we wrote the book. Most developers will choose to use .NET programming for new projects. That said, our comments regarding methodology, business aspects, and system architecture still apply. I'd hire any developer who read and understood this book for a .NET project, if I was looking for talent!

Are you considering a future edition that emphasizes .NET?

Thank you for the source code you provided in the earlier posting. :D

I'm actually wondering the same thing. I've been thinking of developing PPC apps (for personal uses) for quite some time now, but never knew where quite to start.

Obviously, I'm another person that didn't know such a book existed. Thanks for the link!!
