After two weeks of contemplating, i sold my iBook (Apple is not for me) and funded my e740.

within 5 minutes of bringing it home its already exceeding my expectations! It picked up my wireless LAN (Linksys) and I didn't even know it. I popped in the CF from my digicam and it flawlessly showed me the contents. I threw some mp3s on there, and the media player recognized and played no sweat. Recorded my kids singingm and played it back through my Cambridge Soundwords system.

So far all good... and i havent opened the manual yet ;)

Now, a couple questions:
1) I tried to play an mpeg, but it didnt work.... any ideas there?
2) Any updates i need to make immediately?
3) any other tips/tricks?

thanks ;)

Pocket Divx maybe? Not sure if it will play mpegs, but, here's a link to a review of it:

Well, i dont understand why Media Player plays the same file on my desktop, but on on the PPC. Is there a codec to get or something?

The version on the desktop is infinetly bigger than the PPC version. The PPC version only supports WMV, WMA, and MP3 by default. I think both the Divx program and PocketTV support MPEG playback. I think MS didn't include support for these to promote its own media formats and to save space on a device wich could have as little as 32MB of ROM/RAM.

If it isn't already on there, I would download the EUU3 upgrade from the Toshiba website

Welcome to the good life! :D Now all you need is some good software and you're on your way. I would recommend Handango. They have lots to choose from.

I dont understand why its called EUU3, but assuming this is the RPM 1.06118 blah blah update... well I tried to install it, and I got an error saying "the model of your device is not appropriate" or something. However i do have an e740 (not NW).

I think what is going on is that this unit is already upgraded (1.06 i believe...) I also have the XP like start up screen.. Bliss or whatever it it called.

Well, if you have the Bliss Theme, you already have EUU3!!! Good luck with your PPC!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have fun with your e740. That built in wireless is just icing on the cake. I bought a e740 this summer and love it. It gave me a newfound freedom to stream media around the house. There is nothing quite like watching TV (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3263) in the bathroom, I mean anywhere in the house  .

In the bathroom? Whaat?

You're lucky you havent had any of the trillions of problems others are experiencing. Just read the message boards. And I also hope you dont have to send it in for support :(
