So I went today and picked myself up a Toshiba e740. I also got screen overlays and a 128mb Compact Flash card. I will be using it mainly for school (projects, assignments, grades, meetings, etc), contacts from school, work, and home, and playing the occasional mp3 and mpgs/divx movies.

My questions are:

1) I got the Toshiba Pocket PC rebate which gives me 3 options, and I don't know which one to get! :? What do you guys think?

i. PDA Accessory Power Option II (32MB SD card, 10W AC adapter, USB client cable, USB cradle)
ii. PDA High Capacity Battery
iii. $100 cash back

2) Now that I have it, what programs/utilities/games should I get?

Thanks!

1) I would take the cash. If you need additional storage, you can buy a 128 MB SD card or something entirely non-PDA since you've already invested so much money.

2) Here are the accesories and games I like:
- Toshiba PDA case
- Toshiba thumb keyboard (don't have it yet, but plan to get one)
- CompactFlash camera from www.pretec.com (again, don't have it, but plan to get one once the 1.3 megapixal version comes out)
- Eval (a nice scientific calculator)
- MiniStumbler (for finding WiFi hotspots)
- Picture Viewer (for looking at digital images)
- PocketBible from Laridian Software (if so inclined)
- Lemonade (very cool game)
- Everquest (another cool game that I have yet to get)
- BDicty (a Dictionary)

Hope that helps.

Get the cash... more valuable than any of the other options which you could buy for less than $100

Is the pocketBible free or does it cost? Also, I picked up the 128mb CF card, should I have gotten the SD? I was going to put mp3s and divx movies on it, and whatever else catches my eye.

Thanks

Nah...if you are happy with the CF card then solid. A bit less expensive and the same info. Usually a bit zippier on the data transfer also. As for Bible, I don't see why would couldn't get it for free somewhere. Go to an ebook database and search for bible.

If that doesn't work, maybe the Mormons. They usual distribute for free. Maybe the LDS church would have it in .lit?

The PocketBible is available from Laridian Software at http://www.laridian.com. A demo version can be downloaded and installed on your e740. If you like the demo, you can pay for the full version.

I don't know if the Mormon website has books available in .lit format, but PocketBible would have more features than a regular ebook. It has the books listed in order and provides a robust search engine. So, yes there probably is a way to get a free Bible on your Palm, but PocketBible gives you more features and the ability to have more translations than just the King James Version.

Regarding the CF Card, it is cheaper and faster than SD, but there are a lot of accesories available for your CF Slot. I prefer to use SD for storage and the CF slot for accessories like a camera, radio tuner, and GPS card. I also like to keep my SD storage card in the unit and only swap CF cards. However, I don't store a lot of audio of video files on my e740 so my requirements are different from yours.

All in all, you chose a good PDA. I enjoy mine, and I hope you enjoy yours.

I would either go with ii. or iii. The "power option" seems weak - 32MB won't get you far, and I don't really tink that you will need the adapter / cable / cradle.

If the battery is more expensive, definitely go with that. An extra battery is always useful, especially if you're gonna be either on the road or using the your PPC a lot. If the cash is of more monetary value, then go ahead and get that, for obvious reasons.

Yes, the LDS church does have a free King James version of the bible (although it is in .pdb format and you'll have to download the reader). The link is:
http://www.lds.org/handheldlibrary/0,6461,342-1,00.html

If you want the Old Testament, New Testament, and the required reader, it'll take up about 2 megs. The Bible Dictionary (385k) is also very nice to have and it links to the Bible (so if you want to read the actual text of a scripture that's referenced in the BD, all you do is tap on the link and it takes you there).

The Yanceyware LDS version takes up a lot of memory, but is the BEST I've seen. It has color maps, index, Bible dictionary and the works. 8)

Is the Yanceyware LDS a King James Version, or what? I looked on the website, but all it says is "New Testament" and "Old Testament."

You may wanna check out Olive Tree Bible Reader (http://www.olivetree.com). The reader is free, and you can get KJV and the Modern KJV versions free - other versions you will have to pay for. I find Olive Tree to be fairly functional, not to mention free.
